Types of artificial light lamps

It is a must-have item for the studio. We call them 1 bulbs and 2 bulbs respectively. It looks like a household light bulb and is usually equipped with a reflector.

If you use the reflector as shown in figure 1 1.3, then no matter what light bulb is inside, this lamp belongs to floodlight. If a narrow reflector as shown in figure 1 1.4 is used, it is a spotlight.

Reflective floodlight bulbs with different powers (such as 200 watts, 375 watts and 500 watts) can be used as ordinary floodlight bulbs. The inner layers of these bulbs are all plated with silver, which acts as a built-in reflector. These reflective bulbs can also project a narrow and strong beam after modification, so we call them spotlights. The back of any reflector bulb is equipped with a fixed reflector, and the lamp is closely connected with the reflector, which is convenient to install. But its price is higher.

Usually in the permanent studio, professional photographers use standard light bulbs, one of the reasons is its low price. Another factor is that the metal reflector can focus, and the distance between the bulb and the reflector can be changed due to the diffuser, so that the light distribution can be controlled more accurately.

The most commonly used professional floodlight bulb can emit 3200K light.

Let's see what this means. The film class talked about color temperature, in which the temperature of light is measured by Kelvin temperature scale, so the meaning of 3200K is: the absolute temperature scale of tungsten wire in the bulb is 3200 K.

We also know from the film class that the color of light will change with the increase of light source temperature. Light is red at low temperature and will turn yellow with the increase of light source temperature. When the temperature continues to rise, the light will turn blue.

During the day, the temperature of light is about 5500K, and the actual color at this time is blue. So the sky looks blue. Compared with sunlight, the light emitted by the floodlight bulb of photographic tungsten filament is slightly yellow at a temperature of about 3200K K.

We can't tell the color difference between sunlight and tungsten filament light with naked eyes, but film, especially color film, can. When you shoot a scene with daylight film under 3200D light, every element in the picture appears yellow. So if you take color photos, you should use film with balanced color temperature. For example, tungsten balance film, or simply tungsten film, is specially designed for shooting under the irradiation of tungsten lamp.

The temperature of light produced by household light bulbs is 2800K, so its color is even yellower than the 3200K produced by professional floodlight bulbs.

Black and white film is not affected by the color temperature of light. So when taking black and white photos, you don't need to consider the light source. Only when taking color photos should we pay attention to the color balance of the film. Timely iodine tungsten lamp filament is another kind of incandescent lamp that needs to be understood. This kind of lamp is complete and self-contained. Ordinary iodine tungsten lamp can emit strong light with power as high as 600 watts to 1000 watts. Because of its compact and relaxed structure, it is favored by many professional photographers, and its portability is cherished by experts. But its price is much higher than that of traditional floodlights or photographic lighting equipment. Therefore, novices don't have to rush to buy.
