Every year, the Consumer Foundation accepts applications from consumers for testing "Chinese medicine contains western medicine and heavy metals". Last year, 204 samples of traditional Chinese medicine containing western medicine were applied for testing, including 25 samples containing western medicine, accounting for 12.3%.

Almost all of these fake Chinese medicines purchased by the people or donated by relatives and friends claim that they can cure traumatic injuries, relieve pain, dispel wind and dampness, treat uric acid gout, or tonify the kidney. The detected western medicine components include diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide), anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs (piroxicam), vitamins (vitamin B 1, thiamine diisocyanate) and domestic early drugs.
