1 basic commonly used 3dmax tips Learn 3dmax modeling and rendering tips.
1. Working with geometry
When modeling or working with geometry in 3dsMax, always use a 1: 1 scale and assign logical names to elements. In complex scenes, it is much easier to identify "SouthWall" than "Box95". Use layers and Group functions to combine multiple elements, and when repeating the same thing, create an instance instead of a complete copy. In this way, when you change the geometry or material on an item, all instances will change accordingly.
2. Isolation
In a complex scene, isolate a single object (right-click >; Isolation will allow you to concentrate on editing or texturing a single project, while the rest of the scene is hidden.
3. Filling
With the filling function of 3dsMax, a large number of people can be placed in the scene through the built-in library. When placed along the path, they will be animated in advance to keep slight body movement, or they will be fully textured when placed along the path.
only model as needed
4. Efficient modeling
Before detailed modeling, please move the camera inside 3dsMax to select the required viewing angle and composition. In this way, you can save a lot of time by modeling what the camera can see. This also helps to avoid the temptation to show all the hard modeling in an unrealistic wide-angle image that tries to capture the whole scene. Instead, try using a lens with a narrow angle. If you really need to include more scenes, pull back the camera and use the clipping plane to cut the foreground elements from the view.
5. Photography embracing the real world
Rendering software allows endless adjustment of camera and environment settings to bypass the photography constraints in the real world, thus making very special images, but doing so will always produce obvious CGI appearance. If you adopt the philosophy of trying to copy real photography, your images will begin to have photographic quality.
copy real-world materials
6. master rendering
if you use a specific rendering engine (such as V-Ray), make sure that all scene materials are optimized for that specific engine. Therefore, strange behaviors in materials and lighting can be avoided when rendering.
7. Create realistic objects
Look for clues about the surrounding world to understand the behavior of different materials and surfaces under changing lighting conditions. In the natural world, you rarely find pure black or white, so please avoid using pure black RGB value of (it will absorb all the light that hits it) and pure white RGB value of 255 (it will reflect all the black). Light.
similarly, you rarely find physical objects with sharp edges. A smooth 9-degree edge can make the object appear more realistic under its light source.

8. use realistic lighting
base the lighting settings on the real environment, and your materials and colors will be more convincing. Take photos in an environment similar to that in automatic mode, and pay attention to the shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed used by the camera. Apply these values to the "physical camera" in 3dsMax and adjust the intensity of the light source (for example, HDRI or Sun) until the light level of the generated rendering is similar to that in the real photo. Now, you have basically established a lighting setting with real values, and you can adjust the settings of the physical camera to control the lighting just like taking a real photo.
you may still need to add fill light around the scene to highlight some elements, but their intensity will now have a realistic basis, and you will avoid serious blasting areas and top reflections. Remember, the more light sources and reflective materials in the scene, the longer it takes to render.
9. optimize the output
always save the rendering as a 32-bit TIFF file, not JPEG. JPEG is a compressed format, which will limit the amount of information you can handle in post-production. 32-bit TIFF is an uncompressed file, which allows you to better control the lighting and exposure adjustment in post-production.
Be selective about what you are shooting
1. Updating and saving
3dsMax is a very complicated program. Check the latest ServicePack regularly to ensure that all updates and bug fixes have been implemented.
due to this complexity, 3dsMax is also prone to crash. Be sure to save before making any major changes or starting rendering. You should also save incrementally to ensure that backup files can be restored to the current save if it is damaged. 3dsMax has the function of incremental saving (file >; Save as > Click the+button), this function will add a suffix with a number to the file name every time it is saved.
