Why do we humans not feel dizzy when the earth rotates so fast?
When the earth rotates from west to east around its axis of rotation, the average rotation angular velocity is 7.292× 10 (-5) radian/sec, and the rotation linear velocity at the equator of the earth is 466 m/sec. The average linear velocity of the earth's revolution is 940 million kilometers per year, or 29.8 kilometers per second. The speed of the earth's rotation and revolution is so fast, why don't people feel dizzy?
It's actually quite simple. We know that it takes 24 hours for the earth to rotate once. Think about it, how slow is it for a person to stand in the same place and let him turn around for 24 hours? Unless you fast forward. Similarly, you can't see the minute hand on the watch moving. Too slow for human perception. But if you are on a clock big enough, if you get closer, you can see the minute hand moving. Another example is riding a merry-go-round. You can feel it spinning. But slow it down 60 times, and your body won't feel its rotation. Of course, the number related to its angular velocity is very high relative to the frame of reference that we usually think, but it is still only equivalent to one revolution per day.
Moreover, many favorable points for us to observe the earth are in orbit, and we cannot observe the rotation as a static reference point. Some satellites run at the same speed as the earth's rotation. This makes it look like it is hovering in place, or the earth is not spinning. In low orbit, although you go around the earth very fast, you can't feel it. Astronauts on the International Space Station, they did see the earth spinning under their feet. But that's because they are circling it. If you observe the earth on the moon for several hours, you will see it spinning slowly. If you have enough patience, you will find that it takes more than 24 hours to complete a rotation. The moon rotates in the same direction because the direction of the earth is the same.
So in space, everything is moving, so when you talk about sports, you must give a reference point. "The Earth rotates" is an incomplete sentence. It lacks "from the perspective of the sun". In the background of the solar system, the sun is the only static thing. If you want to run at a lower altitude than the geostationary orbit (as most satellites, including the International Space Station, do), you need to run faster than the earth's rotation. You can choose a higher altitude than a geosynchronous satellite, which will make your orbit slower than the earth's rotation, so that you can see the earth rotating.
So if you want to notice the rotation of the earth in the video, you need to be at least above the geostationary orbit. If you go higher, the earth will rotate faster than you, which means you start to see the rotation. The higher you go, the faster the earth seems to turn.
