What is the Smith Foundation? Where is it?
The Eugene Smith Foundation announced the winners of this year's W.Eugene Smith Humanitarian Photography Award and Howard Chapnik Photography Award. Lu Guang, a photographer from China, and Ren Yue, a teacher from the School of Journalism of China Renmin University, won Eugene Smith's Humanitarian Photography Award and Howard Chapnik's Photography Award respectively for Pollution in China and Huilongguan's filming project "New Geography-Beijing Contemporary Urban Landscape". This is the first time that a photographer from Chinese mainland has won an award from the Foundation after Chien-Chi Chang, a photographer from Taiwan Province Province, China, won the Eugene Smith Humanitarian Photography Award with 1999. Both of them won the award at the same time.
