Since 1988, he has been engaged in TV drama photography, advertising and literary column editing and directing. He has been working as a documentary director since 1998. He has been working as a screenwriter and director of TV series since 2008.

Director Wei Dajun is forge ahead and unique in the fields of TV series, documentaries, and literature, and is especially good at humanistic and historical themes. He has served as the director of CCTV's "Art Garden Landscape", "Rotating Stage" and other programs, the general director and chief artist of CCTV's International Women's Day Gala in 1999, and the chief director and chief artist of the first National Rule of Law Publicity Day Gala on December 4, 2000. "Discovering the Tomb of Marquis Zeng Yi" shot in 1998 made a major breakthrough in traditional documentaries in terms of style and narrative techniques. "A Man and a City" profoundly combines television media with literature, creating a new form called "writer's television" and achieving extremely high ratings in the field of documentaries.
