The Academy of Fine Arts of Zhaoqing University, formerly known as the Fine Arts Department of Zhaoqing Normal University, the Fine Arts Department of Xijiang University and the Fine Arts Department of Zhaoqing University, was founded in 1979 and took the lead in offering fine arts education in the whole province. At the beginning of its establishment, Zhaoqing Normal University was the Art Department 1979 to 1983, which was divided into the Art Department and the Music Department. 1983 The Ministry of Fine Arts was abolished and the Ministry of Fine Arts and the Ministry of Music were established. Xijiang University was established on the basis of 1985 Zhaoqing Normal University, and a new non-normal arts and crafts major was established in the Department of Fine Arts. 1990 12 Zhaoqing teachers college merged into Xijiang university and became the fine arts department of Xijiang university, retaining two majors: fine arts education and arts and crafts. In 2000, Xijiang University and Zhaoqing College of Education merged to form the Fine Arts Department of Zhaoqing College, which was renamed as the Fine Arts Department of Zhaoqing College. The major of fine arts education was renamed as the major of fine arts, and the major of arts and crafts was renamed as the major of art design. Four-year undergraduate students began to enroll in five central and southern provinces. In July 2007, the Fine Arts Department of Zhaoqing University was officially renamed as the Academy of Fine Arts and became the second-level college of Zhaoqing University. At present, there are three departments in the Academy of Fine Arts: Fine Arts Department, Art Design Department and Theory Department. Among them, the fine arts department has oil painting major, Chinese painting major and art design major, while the art design department has graphic major, interior major and animation major. There are 934 full-time undergraduates. In recent years, the school has increased its investment in the teaching facilities of the Academy of Fine Arts, and the teaching infrastructure of the Academy of Fine Arts has been continuously improved. The building area of the Art Building in use is 10060m2. Among them, the professional classroom is nearly 4000㎡, the test center 1 000㎡ and the exhibition venue 1 500㎡. At present, in addition to the multimedia facilities and laboratories shared with the school resources, the Academy of Fine Arts has also established a photography laboratory, a pottery laboratory, a printmaking laboratory, an animation laboratory, a Chinese painting copying and mounting room, a technology and model laboratory according to the needs of professional teaching, and is equipped with full-time experimenters. All the experimental courses set in the teaching plan can be offered, and good results have been achieved.

Over the past 20 years, the Academy of Fine Arts has trained nearly 3,000 art education talents and art design talents for the society, and made due contributions to art education in primary and secondary schools and local economic development in Guangdong Province.

Based on the overall guiding ideology of "basing on the local, facing the grassroots and serving the region", the Academy of Fine Arts established the guiding ideology and training goal of "focusing on undergraduate teaching, basing on the local, actively adapting to the needs of national and local economic and cultural development, and cultivating applied talents with modern professional knowledge, technical practice ability and innovative thinking ability for the local", and planned the professional construction and development direction of the Academy of Fine Arts around this guiding ideology and training goal.
