What does post-sharpening mean?

In the post-processing of photography, sharpening is one of the important technical means, which can make the photos clearer, brighter and more natural, and better present the artistic conception that the photographer wants to express. Sharpening can strengthen the edges and details of the image, improve the texture and fineness of the photo, and make the whole photo more realistic and stereoscopic. In addition, through proper sharpening processing, it can also make up for the problems of blurred and distorted images caused by insufficient camera shooting or photography skills to some extent.

There are two main methods of sharpening in the middle and late stage of photography, one is local sharpening and the other is global sharpening. Local sharpening can usually be achieved by adjusting parameters such as sharpening radius and threshold. In the process of processing, we should pay special attention not to sharpen the image excessively, otherwise it will have a sharp sharpening effect on the image, and even lead to problems such as distortion and noise in the image. Global sharpening is relatively simple. Usually, you only need to apply a sharpening filter to the photo, which doesn't require much operation, but you also need to pay attention to the sharpening degree and the changes of different layers.

In the post-processing of photography, sharpening is as important as exposure and contrast. Proper sharpening can improve the texture and three-dimensional sense of photos, but excessive sharpening and improper processing methods may also cause damage to photos, make them distorted or produce noise. So when grinding, we must pay attention to the degree of grinding and choose the appropriate grinding method. In addition, different photo scenes also need different sharpening methods. For example, portrait and landscape photography need different sharpening adjustments, so detailed post-processing is needed for different shooting scenes and requirements.
