1920, Chen Heqin and his first child Yi Ming started his research work together. At that time, Mr. Chen was a teacher in Nanjing Normal School. In order to master the first-hand information, he deliberately asked for leave at home, took photos of Yi Ming's activities from morning till night, gave him something to eat, and observed the change of his expression. He also brought Yi Ming to class as a living teaching material for students.

Yi Ming likes painting since he was a child. Sometimes he talks while painting. He wrote down the dates, years and descriptions of Yi Ming's paintings, so that more than 100 paintings were well preserved. He spent 808 days in a row, specializing in analyzing the development law of children's body, movements, psychology, personality and speech. After three years of observation and experiment, I have written two books: Psychological Research of Children and Family Education.

Motivation makes it easier to correct mistakes.

Chen Heqin believes that it is easy for anyone to be motivated to change, but it is even harder to be scolded to change. Children especially like to listen to good words and encouraging words. One day, Chen Heqin saw Yi Ming playing with a piece of broken cotton wool wrapped in his body. He thought: should I take away his broken cotton wool at once, or replace it with something else? After careful consideration, he had better guide him with positive hints. So he said to Yi Ming, "This is a very dirty thing. I don't think you will like it. You want a clean one, right? " You should run to your room and ask your mother for a clean piece, shouldn't you? "Yi Ming heard his father encouraging him, so he happily ran to the room and changed into a clean blanket.

Be smart about "why" children.

Chen Heqin opposes refusing children to ask difficult questions and doesn't like answering questions. He advocates the educational method of using children's curiosity to guide exploration. For example, Chen Heqin said: One day, a 5-year-old child and his father went for a walk in the suburbs. He saw a child flying a kite in the distance and asked his father, "What is that child doing over there?" His father replied, "Do you want to have a look?" He said, go with him. When he arrived, his father said to him, "Ah! What beautiful things are in the air. What do you think that child has in his hand? Do you want to take a closer look? " He went out of curiosity and came back and said to his father, "This is a thread."

So his father took him to the street to buy paper, bamboo and other materials, and made him a kite at home. The next day, I accompanied him to fly kites in the suburbs. Chen Heqin said that this method of guiding children with difficult problems can cultivate children's dependence better than "answering questions".
