Plot summary:

One day in the early spring of 1968, Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. In a small cafe in the suburbs, brain surgeon Thomas met Teresa, who was working as a waitress here. She was reading the world famous book "Anna Karenina" at the time. Thomas fell in love with this simple and refined beauty almost at first sight. And Thomas, a handsome young man from the city, is exactly what the girl wants. The two soon became intimate. But the unpredictable Thomas wanted to go back to Prague, so he said goodbye to Teresa.

Thomas is a romantic bachelor. If he said to female patients in a professional tone: "Please take off your clothes!" those women would strip off their clothes without hesitation and let him do whatever he wanted. However, these are just a joke. Only the female painter Sabina, he regarded her as his confidant. They had dated a lot, but he had never spent the night at her house, even though Sabina had told him that she loved him.

When Thomas came back from the suburbs, he couldn't help but feel a little disappointed, so he came to Sabina's apartment directly. Sabina was now wearing a black bikini and a black gentleman's hat. She lies on an oval mirror. The women inside and outside the mirror form a contrast between soul and body, reason and desire. Thomas watched in ecstasy, and he threw himself at Sabina, and they both fell in love with her.

Thomas and the others were greatly disappointed. Thomas was originally dissatisfied with those people because they promoted a set of brutal policies during the Stalin era. They held a simple wedding at the place of their friend Beppel who lived in the countryside. They also chose a puppy as a pet and named the dog Kalainen. Shortly after his marriage, Thomas's political criticism was published in newspapers.

After becoming a husband, Thomas still couldn't get rid of his dissolute nature. He often came home very late, either to find Sabina or to hang out with other women. After all, Sabina is an artist, and she is completely acceptable to Thomas's lifestyle. As long as she loves him and has fun with him, everything else is irrelevant.
