1. Communication University of China, referred to as "Zhongchuan" for short, is located in Beijing, the capital. It is a characteristic university in the field of information and communication directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), a national "world-class discipline construction university", a national "21/engineering" key construction university and a national "985 engineering advantage discipline innovation platform" construction university. The national "11plan", "National Postgraduate Plan for Building a High-level University" and "National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan" were selected as the sponsors of the International Media Higher Education Alliance and the UNESCO Chair on Media and Women.

The school was formerly a training course for technicians of the Central Broadcasting Bureau, which was founded in 1954. 1958 was renamed Beijing Broadcasting Institute. 1959 approved by the State Council, the school was upgraded to Beijing Broadcasting Institute. In 2000, it was transferred from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television to the Ministry of Education. In 2002, China University of Mining and Technology Beijing Campus (formerly Beijing Coal Management Cadre College) East Campus was merged into Beijing Broadcasting Institute. In September 2004, it was renamed China Communication University.
