The concept of digital pipeline (or digital pipeline) is accompanied by "Digital Earth (DE)". The core idea of digital earth is to solve the earth's problems as a whole through digital means and make maximum use of information resources. From digitalization, data modeling, system simulation, decision support to virtual reality, the digital earth is an open complex giant system and a data system project with global comprehensive information. Under the profound influence of the concept of "digital earth", a large number of concepts such as digital city, digital mine, digital oil field, digital water conservancy, digital pipeline and digital community have been put forward and implemented accordingly.

Compared with digital pipeline, the name of digital pipeline is more professional. Someone pointed out that digital pipeline can be defined as: "Digital pipeline is a virtual representation of pipeline, which can collect natural and human information of pipeline, and people can explore and interact with this virtual body." Specifically, digital pipeline is an application system that integrates the digitalization, digital integration, simulation and other information of pipeline resources, environment, society, economy and other complex systems by using high-tech means such as remote sensing (RS), data acquisition system (DCS) or SCADA system, global positioning system (GPS), geographic information system (GIS), business management information system, computer network and multimedia technology, modern communication, etc. Since the construction of digital pipeline is so important, what advantages does it have?

1. Digital pipeline makes full use of national spatial data infrastructure data, and obtains the latest topographic, geological, hydrological and environmental data through aerial photogrammetry and satellite remote sensing images. Compared with the traditional data collection methods, it is richer in content, faster in updating, more complete in data description and more intuitive in data table. Remote sensing technology greatly shortens the cycle, reduces the cost and improves the accuracy.

2.GIS system provides geographic information services. Integrating the data of geography, population, environment, vegetation and economic resources in a certain range around the pipeline, and using the spatial analysis function of GIS to carry out operations such as superposition analysis, buffer analysis and shortest path analysis, can make overall planning and evaluation of the line and provide important basis for decision-making and management. GIS technology can also be used to manage pipeline risks, guide the system to make maintenance plans and take corresponding remedial measures. When the risk index reaches the warning line, it will automatically start the corresponding emergency plan to reduce the pipeline accident rate as much as possible.

3. Digital pipeline adopts CAD technology and network technology, which realizes the digital management of pipeline construction design drawings, construction materials, personnel data and management documents, and transmits them to the database through local area network or Internet, integrating different data of various professions and units into a whole, effectively eliminating "information islands" and realizing information sharing and collaborative work.

4. Use a large database to store data. Spatial data center can manage and store all the data obtained in the construction and operation of digital pipeline. In each link of pipeline construction, the corresponding database is established, and the data results of each stage are connected with the system.

5. Number five. SCADA system realizes the automatic control of pipelines. Through the communication between the host computer and remote terminal equipment RTU, PCL or other input/output equipment based on microprocessor, the data can be collected, and the whole digital pipeline can be monitored to ensure the safe operation and optimal control of the system.

6. The digital pipeline realizes the virtual reality expression of the whole pipeline, which makes the digital pipeline show to users in a real and visible three-dimensional environment. Users can interactively query and manipulate the public information of pipelines, and the three-dimensional virtual roaming of pipelines is like being in a real three-dimensional world, which fully embodies the spatial characteristics of digital pipelines.
