How to choose a suitable background for portrait photography?

By using post-image processing tools such as Photoshop and Lightroom, we can "excite" the colors hidden in the RAW file and make the photos more vivid and pleasing to the eye. However, perhaps many people don't understand that even if we don't open those later software programs, we can still create portraits with bright colors. The following skills are carefully recommended by me, hoping to help you.

Selection of shooting background

1. Select a background that is complementary to the main color.

Before that, we should be familiar with some common complementary colors, which will be of great help to our actual portrait shooting. They include red and green, orange and blue, purple and yellow. Paying attention to the color relationship between the background and the subject can help us create a portrait with a good visual impression.

When choosing a shooting scene, we should not only care about the composition, but also pay attention to the main color in the scene. If you know that you are going to shoot in a country full of yellow wild flowers, you'd better arrange for your model to wear clothes with purple as the main color. Accordingly, if there are large green shrubs in the shooting scene, models dressed in pink or red will show better shooting effect.

2. Rational use of neutral background

The above methods are suitable for flexible adjustment of shooting conditions, but in most cases, it may be difficult for us to ask the model what kind of clothes to wear, or the clothes of the model are rich in color, so the following suggestions can also help you improve the performance of the film in color. This suggestion is to find a simple neutral background. You may think it will be more interesting to take photos with rich colors and details, but doing so will make the whole picture look chaotic and distract the audience from the main body.

Step 3 use a colored background

The interesting thing about photography is that it constantly breaks the rules. You can never understand the rules, but you can never stick to them. Although a neutral background can better highlight the subject, it doesn't mean that you can't do the opposite and choose some colorful scenes as shooting locations. If our model wears white, black or neutral clothes, then the appropriate background color can also play a prominent role in the main body.

4. Eliminate any factors that may cause interference.

Finally, before pressing the shutter, we should make sure that there is nothing in the whole picture that may interfere with the line of sight, especially the cleanliness of the background is very important. After all, we want to keep the audience's attention firmly locked on the model. Is there anyone else in the background? Is there rubbish on the ground? Are there many vehicles with different colors in the picture? Wait a minute. Anything we can find in the camera viewfinder will become an interference element in the film. If this happens, we can adjust the position of the model until the people in the background disappear or stay away from the subject; Pick up the rubbish on the ground around the model. Eliminating anything that may interfere with the subject will make the impression of the photo further.

Portrait photography skills

Pay attention to the exposure settings.

It is not easy to measure light in prime time, because the difference and refractive index of light hitting different surfaces are large, and the measurement is inconsistent. If you want the exposure of the subject to be accurate, you should aim at the subject's face instead of measuring the light in the whole picture.

Use edge lights

Edge light is a golden line around the subject, usually when the sun appears behind your subject, which is a shooting effect that many girls like very much.

Use one's talents

The so-called glory * * * Lenflare * * is actually the aperture circle at the bottom of the above picture. Generally, we don't want to be too bright when taking pictures, because it will affect the quality of the photos. But shooting at sunset, that brilliance adds a mysterious and dreamy feeling to the photo! You can let more sunlight shine directly into the lens, producing more brilliance, for example, facing the sun, or removing the hood to shoot.

Use up every ray of sunshine in the scene environment.

The sunshine in prime time is beautiful and short-lived. Just like life, it is basically difficult for you to control. Sometimes a cloud floats by, and the texture of light may become unnecessary. But even if it is a little dark, the light at dusk is still soft. Shooting happily with his friends in the summer dusk.

The basis of camera argument

1, aperture

The larger the aperture, the smaller the number, and the more light enters, the brighter the photo will be; On the other hand, the large aperture has a shallower depth of field and the portrait background is more dreamy. The smaller the aperture * * *, the larger the number * * *, and the less light, the darker the photo will be; With a small aperture, the background will be clearer, and taking pictures can ensure that all the pictures are captured.

2. Shutter

The higher the shutter speed, the faster the action can be fixed and the solidified effect can be captured. The lower the shutter speed, the less clear the captured motion and the more blurred the object exposed for a long time.

3.ISO sensitivity

Low sensitivity is suitable for shooting in an environment with sufficient light sources, and the picture noise will be less; Suitable for shooting with high sensitivity in an environment with insufficient light source, but the higher the sensitivity, the more noise there will be.

4. Focal length

The longer the focal length of the lens, the narrower the viewing angle, and vice versa. For example, the viewing angle of a 300mm telephoto lens is only 8, while the viewing angle of an 8mm super wide-angle lens is180.

5. Composition basis: trichotomy

When composing a composition, divide the picture into three equal parts with two vertical lines and horizontal lines, just like writing a "well". Putting the subject at four intersections is the most stable shooting position.

6. Composition basis: diagonal line

The diagonal line extending from the upper left corner to the lower right corner of the picture is full of sadness and tension, which is suitable for strengthening the atmosphere. The diagonal line from the lower left corner to the upper right corner is more dynamic and the picture is more powerful. The right middle position is suitable for calm and smooth performance.
