Which direction is the green comet?

The green comet is in the northern sky, between the Big Dipper and the North Star.

Comet C/2022 E3 was first observed and discovered in March, 2022 by the Zwicky Transient Research Facility. According to the official introduction, although this comet is not big, it will be closer to the earth.

According to the data, from June 5438 to June 20231October, comet C/2022 E3 moved from the northern corona to Sirius, Draco and Ursa minor, with a very fast speed. In February, 2022 (12) and October, 2023 (10), astrophotography fans photographed this comet. Judging from the published photos, this comet is emerald green with a bright and broad tail.

The reason why comet C/2022 E3 appears green.

When the comet roared past the sun, the energy of the star evaporated the ice of the comet into gas, forming a fragile and short-lived atmosphere around the rock. The color of a coma depends on its gas composition.

Take comet C/2022 E3 as an example. Some gases contain diatomic carbon, which is a molecule composed of two fused carbon atoms. When these molecules are irradiated by ultraviolet light, they emit green light.
