What photoshop skills do photographers need to master?

1- Select the highlighted area.

When using Photoshop for post-processing, you can select the highlights (bright pixels) in the photo as the selection. The easiest way to select a highlight area in a photo is to use the shortcut key MAC OS Command+Option+2 (Windows OS: CTRL+ALT+2).

If you don't remember the keyboard shortcuts, you can also load the brightness by pressing Cmd/Ctrl and clicking the RGB thumbnail in the channel panel.

After confirming the selection, you can create an adjustment layer to apply the selection to layer mask.

The adjustment layer only adjusts the bright pixels in the picture. After adjustment, you will find that only the highlight pixels have changed, and the dark pixels have not been affected.

Dark pixels can also be selected by inversion. Just select the layer and click Invert in the property panel.

In the later retouching process, we can select areas that are particularly difficult to adjust, use the "color range" command, select the color range more accurately and quickly according to the sampled colors, and adjust the selected color range at will.

In most cases, we use RGB format or CMYK format more in Photoshop. But in addition to these two, there is another color mode that can be used in some cases. In image >: Mode > Lab color, you can change the color mode of photos to Lab mode.
