Moon landing skills

It is much easier to photograph the appearance of the moon with other landscape themes. In fact, there are only two key factors, one is to shoot the moon at night, and the other is to shoot the moon alone.

In photography practice, many tests are needed to capture images including the moon and other ground scenes. The appearance of the moon is very bright in the dark night, so it is difficult for the camera to cope with such a wide dynamic range. This means that if you want to include the moon in the picture and other parts are exposed correctly, then the moon will be seriously overexposed, and if the exposure time is as long as a few seconds, the moon will appear smear. Especially when shooting with a telephoto lens, the exposure time should be shortened as much as possible.

When shooting the moon, we should pay attention to the following points:

1. Like taking scenery photos, the first consideration for taking pictures of the moon is weather and atmospheric conditions. If you want to take close-ups, a clear and cloudless sky is obviously the best choice. However, the scene of moonlight shining through layers of dark clouds has a more charming dreamy effect.

Generally speaking, when taking close-up photos of the moon, the longer the focal length of the lens, the better. A telephoto lens with a focal length of at least 200mm is required. If you shoot the moon with a super telephoto lens with a longer focal length, you can present local details such as ridges and craters, and clearly depict the complex terrain on the surface of the moon. With a wide-angle lens, the moon and the ground environment in the night sky can be photographed, and the pictures set each other off.

3. To shoot the moon, it is suggested to choose manual exposure M file shooting, adjust the sensitivity to ISO 100 to reduce the noise of the picture, set the aperture between F8-F 1 1, and set the corresponding shutter speed according to the brightness of the moon, so as to shoot a photo of the moon with appropriate exposure.

4. It is best to set manual focus when shooting the moon. Nowadays, many cameras have the function of live view, using the liquid crystal display of the camera to enlarge the moon (Canon cameras can enlarge it by 5 times and 10 times), and then relying on the eyes to focus accurately. Or you can focus on infinity and fine-tune it as needed.

5. Shoot the moon with telephoto. Any slight shaking may cause the image to blur. If you want to shoot a clear image very stably. We need to use a tripod to keep the camera stable, and cable release or remote control is also an essential accessory.

6. The moon phase will also affect the atmosphere of photos. The full moon may be more suitable for taking close-ups of the moon to show the details of the folds and craters on the moon's surface. For example, when shooting a low-angle new moon, you can add more interesting prospects. Sometimes the front of the moon will be illuminated, and sometimes its edge will be illuminated, depending on the positional relationship between the moon, the sun and the earth. Every factor will have a great influence on the atmosphere of the photo.

8. Sometimes in landscape photography, if the outline of the moon is taken too clearly, the effect will be bad. So sometimes the moon is deliberately blurred, which has a halo effect. In some special cases, we will deliberately overexpose the moon in order to sacrifice the moon to ensure the details of the clouds around the moon. Such a picture can create a hazy artistic conception of the moon and an illusory feeling of clouds.

9. Although the moon is charming, it is too monotonous to take pictures of Zhang Yueliang only in the empty night sky. Taking the moon as an element in the composition of landscape photos will make the photos look more attractive. It should be noted that when taking photos that directly contain the moon and scenery, the moon often appears very small in the picture. If the camera has multiple exposure function, it can shoot the scenery under the moon and moonlight respectively. First, shoot the big moon with a telephoto lens and pay attention to the position of the moon. When shooting a night scene with a wide-angle lens, the camera will automatically synthesize photos through multiple exposures. In this way, the moon will appear bigger than the landscape on the ground.

10. If there is a landscape under the composition, we can't take into account the exposure of the moon and the ground in one photo. If you want both exposures to be normal, the best way is to take a photo with appropriate exposure in Zhang Yueliang, and then take a photo with appropriate exposure according to the ground scenery, and then merge them in Photoshop later.

1 1. When shooting the moon, don't ignore that the moon has been moving slowly in the night sky, and the distance it moves every 2 minutes is equal to its own diameter. When the shutter speed is lower than 1/8 seconds, this movement will lead to tailing. Especially when shooting with a telephoto lens, the more obvious the moon moves on the screen, and this smear will reduce the clarity of the moon and lose the details on the moon.

13. How to balance the exposure of the moon and the ground scenery is also a problem to be considered when shooting the moon. If properly exposed according to the moon, the ground scenery will turn into a large black, if exposed according to the landscape, the moon will be overexposed. In this case, we may need to take two photos with different exposures, one with the moon as the background and the other with the ground scenery as the background, and then synthesize a photo in post-production.

14. For human eyes, the night scene should be much darker than the moon. Therefore, we should pay attention to controlling the exposure of the scenery when shooting, and don't let the scenery be too bright. Too bright a landscape will make people feel unnatural. Hazy scenery can add artistic conception to the picture. For example, shooting the reflection of the moon on the sea or lake, and the black silhouette produced by the moonlight cast on the bare tree in winter night.

15. It is not necessary to shoot the moon in the dark. We usually see the moon in the evening or at dawn, even before the sun goes down. Shooting the moon when day and night alternate may have unexpected effects. The reflection of the setting sun will make the moon turn dark orange or yellow, and the sky and clouds will also show unusual colors.

16. Although the mirror pre-lift function seems useless, you will see the obvious advantages of this function after a long exposure. However, if your lens or camera has anti-shake function, or when using a tripod, be sure to turn off the mirror to pre-enhance the power. Because in practical application, this function may blur your photos.

17. the RAW format is the first choice for shooting the moon, and you can also choose JPG or Raw+JPG format according to the situation. When JPG format is used for post-processing, the overexposed area of lunar highlights cannot be recovered. If it is necessary to shoot in JPG format, the details of highlights should be preserved first. However, the images taken in the later RAW format have a lot of space, and the high-light areas will not be overexposed after adjustment.
