Experts from the National Astronomical Observation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said that the "first light" of the 21st century will shine in Shitang Town, Wenling, Zhejiang.

Because the altitude and geographical environment are different in different parts of the earth, the place where the "first light" of the 21st century is seen is not equal to the place that entered the 21st century at the earliest. The dispute about the location of the "first light" is caused by different calculation methods. However, if other calculation methods are adopted and factors such as altitude, traffic and culture are taken into account, Kuocang Mountain and Forest Mountain can also be selected. The National Astronomical Observation Center believes that in order to be in line with the international practice, it is decided to adopt the results calculated according to the international practice, so that Shitang is the place where Chinese mainland welcomes the "first light" of the new century.
