What does holography mean?

A hologram is a 3D object composed of real light and sound, which looks real around you. Holograms can respond to your gaze, gestures and voice commands, and even interact with the real surface around you.

Holograms consist of light and sound.

Holograms rendered by HoloLens in holographic frames will be displayed directly in front of users. Holograms add light to your world, which means you can see the light from the monitor and the light from the surrounding world at the same time. Because HoloLens adds light through this additive display, black will appear transparent.

The appearance and behavior of holograms will be very different. Some holograms are very realistic and stereoscopic, while others are very cartoon and ghostly. You can use holograms to highlight the environment, or use them as elements of the application interface.
