When it comes to Shangri-La, most people will say it is the name of an international luxury hotel. In fact, it is an isolated, quiet and peaceful Tibetan community, many times more beautiful than a five-star hotel!

The origin of shangri-la

James hilton's novel The Lost Horizon tells the story of four westerners, including Conway, who were taken to the Blue Moon Valley in Shangri-La by a mysterious oriental hijacker when they were transferred to Peshawar from a place called Basku in the South Asian subcontinent during the war.

Throughout Shangri-La described in the novel, various faiths coexist peacefully, and there are Christian churches, Buddhist temples, Taoist temples and Confucian ancestral temples everywhere. The principle people follow is to keep a moderate attitude towards everything, even happiness. Shangri-La is a gathering place of natural scenery-snow-capped mountains, glaciers, canyons, forests, meadows, lakes and wealth-rich in gold mines and pure in air, and it is the home of all beautiful human ideals such as beauty, clarity, safety, leisure, long distance, contentment, tranquility and harmony.

1933 when the novel was published in Britain, the lost horizon became the peach blossom garden of westerners. The dictionary of British writers at that time praised Lost Horizon for creating the word "Xanadu" for English vocabulary-Shangri-La. Since then, this imaginary paradise on earth has become synonymous with Eden, Xanadu and Utopia.

The Discovery of Shangri-La

Since the novel The Lost Horizon came out, Shangri-La has become a place people yearn for. Where is Shangri-La? There have been different opinions. Countless explorers have searched in Indian, Nepali and western China, and what they have seen is not consistent with what james hilton said in his book. Until1September 1997 14, people's search finally came to fruition: Shangri-La, a paradise searched for more than half a century, was confirmed in Diqing, China.

Diqing is a Tibetan autonomous prefecture in the northwest of Yunnan Province. According to research, as early as 1 0,000 years ago, "Shangri-La" meant "Holy Day".

According to historical records, an American transport plane did crash in Yunnan during World War II in 1944. Now the textual research has finally made progress: the first clue is that the word "Shangri-La" only exists in the Tibetan dialect in Zhongdian, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It comes from the word "Shambhala" in Tibetan Buddhist classics, which refers to a state of harmony between man and God and nature. In addition, Diqing's natural environment and the complete kiss described in the novel, the snowy mountains stand proudly, the Yuan Ye is vast, the folk customs are simple, and the Tibetan style is mysterious, all of which are consistent with the plot of the novel.

After more than ten years of repeated research by dozens of experts at home and abroad,1September, 1997, Yunnan Province finally officially declared Shangri-La as Zhongdian area of Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, China. The magnificent scenery of the snowy plateau and the legendary story of Shangri-La have delighted countless Chinese and foreign tourists. It is believed that it will become another new hot spot of China tourism when the snow and ice melt and the road is reopened in early spring. In order to make Dongguan tourists become the first lucky ones to enter the mysterious Shangri-La, the "Shangri-La mystery tour Special Line" of Dongguan International Travel Service has now accepted registration. Anyone who is interested in tourism, nature and photography will definitely find the sacred world of your dreams there.
