Agricultural and sideline products include rice, coffee, oil palm, asparagus, Changshan white pepper, Huqiu litchi, Xilin longan, Xiahe jujube, honey pomelo, etc., as well as improved livestock and poultry such as Dingxi Liangyun duck, leading pig, large yellow croaker, pomfret, eel, cuttlefish, grouper, Gracilaria, lophatherum, long bamboo stick, etc. Industry includes sugar, cigarettes, electricity, food and salt.

Changshan, Xiao Yun is the largest overseas Chinese farm in Fujian, which is composed of returned overseas Chinese from Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam. There is a martyr cemetery in Xianbaoshan, south of the city. Mr. Qi Temple in the west of the city is the birthplace of Qiu Jin, a female revolutionary in the late Qing Dynasty, and there is also Wei Hui Temple in the city, which is dedicated to Chen Yuanguang, the "Zhang Kaiwang" of the Tang Dynasty. In Pantuoling at the junction of Xiao Yun and Zhangpu, there is a site of Pukuiguan in Han Dynasty. The East Canal is 85.7 kilometers long, crossing mountains and seas from the upper reaches of Zhangjiang River and entering Dongshan Island.
