Troy Cosol won the Best Supporting Actor for The Listening Girl, and Yin Ruzhen presented him with an award. As Troy is deaf, Yin Ruzhen conveyed the award-winning message to him in sign language. Troy also became the first hearing-impaired actor to win an Oscar in Oscar history, and the first hearing-impaired person to win an Oscar was marlee matlin, the heroine of Children Out of Grace, who also starred in Listening Girl with Troy.

The Oscar for Best Director went to Jane Campion, the director of The Power of Dogs. She is female directors, who was shortlisted for the best director twice in Oscar history, and it is also the first time that the Oscar has awarded two best director awards to a female filmmaker!
