Tips for time-lapse photography

Lead: At present, there are countless tutorials on how to use different cameras for time-lapse photography. I believe they can help you. The following are the shooting techniques that have never appeared in these tutorials, and I will learn them with you here.

1. Secure the cable release with a shackle.

The use of cable release plays two important roles in time-lapse photography. First, the cable releases the built-in timing function, which can generally save you the trouble of taking pictures regularly; Secondly, it frees your hand from the camera shutter and reduces the terrible body shake. However, if we just randomly wind the cable on the tripod, or throw it aside after connecting it, even a breeze may shake the cable, causing the camera to vibrate slightly, which is contrary to the purpose of using the cable and tripod.

My solution is: I use a shackle to fix the cable releaser on the tripod to prevent the long cable releaser from swinging or winding the photographer's arm in the wind.

Carry a notepad

Or take notes on your mobile phone. In short, you have to have a carrier that can record something at any time, such as camera setting parameters. Personally, I am used to using Evernote mobile phone software, which can synchronize the information in my mobile phone and computer. It's like carrying a photographic database with you. You can think of it as a photographic note. I'm used to writing down what I learned during each shooting. When you encounter a similar shooting situation, just look at your previous shooting notes.

This is a good habit I have developed since golf, and it is also very suitable for my photography work.

3. Download Google Maps to your mobile phone

This technique may not be suitable for any situation, but I strongly recommend it. If you plan to hike to a scenic spot or shoot a completely strange place, then you definitely need to download Google Maps to your mobile phone. In this way, even if you lose the cell phone signal, you don't need to rely on the map provided by the network. GPS can help you find your position.

4. With a little red light

This is a tip for shooting at night. It is obviously difficult to shoot in the dark. This small lamp can provide weak illumination outside the shutter opening time. This gadget is especially useful when shooting stars, because only by minimizing light pollution can we shoot the best celestial photography. Red is very conspicuous in the dark, and the image is the smallest for the camera sensor.

amusement

Unless you are a professional photographer who shoots with nine cameras at a time, you will definitely face a long waiting time. So it must be right to prepare some entertainment equipment. I usually prepare an iPod and a fully charged mobile phone to play games, write blogs, watch sports news and so on. If you like crossword puzzles, of course you can bring some. In simple English, time-lapse photography is a waiting game.

6. Keep warm when shooting in cold weather

Not only you but also your equipment needs to keep warm. Wear more clothes, and you will sweat when you go indoors; Put on another coat when you leave the house. Remember, time-lapse shooting won't give you a chance to walk around and get warm. As soon as you sit down, you will sit there for hours. I suggest you buy cold-proof hunting gloves, so that you can easily show your fingers and change the camera settings flexibly when necessary.

As for your equipment, buy common warm babies in convenience stores, unpack them in the camera bag, and then put all the spare batteries in the camera bag.
