Brief Introduction of Rongcheng Swan National Nature Reserve

Rongcheng Big Swan National Nature Reserve is located in Chengshan Town, Rongcheng City, Shandong Province, with a total area of 1675 hectares, including 668 hectares in the core area, 628 hectares in the buffer area and 379 hectares in the experimental area. In 2000, Shandong provincial government approved the establishment of Rongcheng Swan Lake provincial nature reserve, which was promoted to national level in April 2007.

This area mainly protects endangered birds such as swans and wetland ecosystems. It is an important transit point and wintering habitat for birds migrating from south to north. Nearly ten thousand swans come here for the winter every year, which is the largest known swan wintering population habitat in the world. There are four types of wetlands in this area: reed swamp, tidal flat, shallow sea and lagoon.

Shaba-lagoon system is a typical coastal landform in nature reserves, and Mashan Port is one of the most complete and typical lagoons in China. The landscape of the reserve belongs to the transitional zone between land and sea, which has remarkable ecosystem diversity and special protection and scientific research value.
