Plot introduction

Ben's parents are busy preparing for a family reunion to celebrate his graduation, but Ben is at a loss about his future life. One of the guests, Mrs. Robinson, was very interested in the young man and had been making fun of Ben, but she was rejected. But life was so boring that he soon began to meet Mrs Robinson and fell in love with her daughter Elaine. When Mrs Robinson learned the truth, she resolutely opposed it and tried her best to break up their relationship. Ben finally found an opportunity to confess to Elaine and confess his depravity, but didn't say the lady's name. Elaine forgave him, but Mrs Robinson's anger made Elaine guess everything. She sadly decided to marry someone else. Ben got the news and rushed to the church in despair. He tried his best to save his lover's heart. ...

Film evaluation

This film has become a masterpiece in the late 1960s. Even today, the theme of this film is still quite spicy and interesting! This film is dustin hoffman's first starring film, which is a blockbuster! The whole song is sung by the popular group "Simon and garfinkel", which complements the plot of the film. Buck Henry (guest hotel counter) and Calder Willingham are adapted from Charles Webb's novel. The director won an Oscar that year for his cutting-edge shooting techniques. At that time, the unknown Oscar winner Richard Dreyfus played a small role, that is, the tenant who asked the landlord whether to call the police.

Behind the scenes production

With the rapid development of American social economy in the 1960s, people began to question the rationality of maintaining the old order and tradition of capitalist society, and various social thoughts against the system surged: black liberation movement, women's liberation movement, anti-Vietnam War movement, sexual liberation, homosexuality and hippies, all of which reflected the subversive and destructive nature of the new generation of ideas. Anti-system is the main theme of literary works in the middle and late 1960s.

1967, the emergence of "new Hollywood movies" changed the monopoly system of big factories for many years, and more movies close to real life and young people's thoughts and feelings appeared, which gradually changed Hollywood movies from pure escapism to realistic works of art. This film, directed by mike nichols, became an important masterpiece in this film revolution with a blockbuster gesture. This film reflects the growth of young people and their resistance to adult society. The fledgling young people overcome their own confusion and break through the shackles set by adult society.

The tone of the film is comedy, but the theme is really heavy and serious. It is under this kind of "serious comedy" that the film embodies a bitter irony, which increases the intensity of this irony. On the other hand, as an artist living in the society, he often satirizes the society in good faith, trying to neutralize the extreme degree to a level acceptable to the public, and comedy is the ideal neutralizer. For a young man who has just left college, the social order has been worked out by his parents. This order is the ideology of "adult society". If this ideology is decadent and out of date, it will certainly give birth to one or several individual forces to resist everything. Benjamin is a personal force in the film.

Young Hoffman became famous by starring in this film, and he convincingly explained the growing process of Ben from immaturity to maturity. The famous actress anne Bancroft is also very good at catching Mrs Robinson. Her performance is tepid, elegant and refined, cynical and full of charm.

The music of this film has the characteristics of the times and plays a great role in rendering the atmosphere. The soundtrack of this film was written by Dave Grossin and Paul Simon. The former is responsible for the music part, while the latter is responsible for many episodes in the film, including the well-known Sound of Silence, Scarborough Fair and Mrs Robinson, all of which were catchy and best-selling songs of that year. Grusing is a famous jazz pianist, but his musical styles are quite diverse. This film is biased towards fresh folk songs, which can reflect the mood of college students who have not entered the WTO deeply. Simon is the composer of the famous folk duet Simon and garfinkel. Over the years, only five works have participated in the film soundtrack, and the latest works are almost famous.

titbits

Charles Gordon had intended to play Benjamin, but the deal failed because of differences in salary.

When dustin hoffman and Anne Bankroft first met in the hotel room, Bankroft didn't know that Hoffman was going to touch her chest on purpose. Hoffman decided to do it outside the shooting distance of the movie camera, because it reminded him of his school days, when the boys pretended to put on their coats at the dance, they accidentally touched the girls' breasts. When Hoffman did this in front of the camera, director Mike Nicholas began to laugh behind the camera, and Hoffman began to laugh. He didn't stop shooting, but chose to escape from the camera and go to the corner. Hoffman hit his head against the wall, trying to stop laughing. Nicholas thought it was very interesting, so he kept this passage in the movie.

Although Mrs Robinson should be many years older than Benjamin, the actual age difference between Anne Bankroft and dustin hoffman is less than six years.

Some scenes that Benjamin shot in Berkeley were actually completed in a university in Southern California.

When Elaine followed Benjamin to his dark room, he made her scream. There are several tenants standing behind the landlord at the door. Someone said, "Do you want me to call the police? I'd better go to the police. " This man is richard dreyfuss.

In the most famous cover picture of this film, dustin hoffman is behind the background, and Mrs Robinson's legs are stretched forward in front of the picture. The leg in the photo is actually not Anne Bankloft's, but an unknown model Linda Gray.

The scene of Benjamin hitting people with his fists in the church made many critics feel that he was portrayed as a Christ-like person here. In fact, this is the result of compromise with the church pastor. During rehearsal, Benjamin smashed a fragile glass with his fist, which was a gift for the church. The priest angrily threatened to kick everyone out.

"Mrs Robinson" Anne Bankroft died of uterine cancer in 2005.

Wonderful dialogue

Mr. Block: What's the matter? The guests are all downstairs, Ben, waiting to see you.

Mr Blando: What's the matter with you? The guests are downstairs. Ben is waiting to see you.

Benjamin: Listen, Dad, can you explain to them that I have to be alone for a while?

Benjamin: Dad, can you explain to them that I have to be alone?

Mr. Block: These are our good friends, Ben. Most of them have known you since you were born. What is it, Ben?

Mr Blando: They are all our good friends, Ben. Most of them have known you since you were born. What's the matter with you?

Benjamin: I just ...

Benjamin: I just ...

Mr. Block: Worried?

Mr Blando: Anxiety?

Benjamin: Hmm. ...

Benjamin: This is ...

Mr. Block: About what?

Mr Blando: Why are you anxious?

Benjamin: I think it's about my future.

Benjamin: I think I'm worried about my future.

Mr. Brock: What's the matter?

Mr. Blando: What about the future?

Benjamin: I don't know ... I hope so. ...

Benjamin: I don't know. I think it has become ...

Mr. Brock: Do what?

Mr Blando: How did it become?

Benjamin: [looking at his father] ... different.

Benjamin: (looking at his father) It's ... different.

Benjamin: Where did you do it?

Benjamin: Where did you do it?

Mrs Robinson: It's in his car.

Mrs Robinson: It's in his car.

Benjamin: What kind of car is it?

Benjamin: What kind of car?

Mrs Robinson: Come on.

Mrs Robinson: Let's go now.

Benjamin: No, I really want to know.

Benjamin: No, I really want to know.

Mrs Robinson: A Ford.

Mrs Robinson: A Ford.

Benjamin: God, that's great. Old Elaine Robinson started in a Ford.

Benjamin: God, it's so strong. Elaine started with a Ford.

A (movie) fiasco

Found a mistake: In the scene where Benjamin and Mrs Robinson meet in a bar, Benjamin didn't stop the waiter passing by. Behind their glass wall, you can see that the waiter stopped when he left the picture, waiting for the prompt to enter the picture again.

Out of sync: When Ben ruined Elaine's wedding, someone told Elaine that it was too late for her to come back to Ben. She replied, "That's not true!" Her voice sounds like a scream, but watching her lips move is more like a whisper.

Found the mistake: When Benjamin and Mrs. Robinson drove past the "rainy scene" near Robinson's home, the lawn and bushes in the background flashed bright sunshine.

Continuity: Ben walks out of Elaine's house and sees the Robinson family parked. He put his hand on the rearview mirror, but in the next shot, it is a close-up of the rearview mirror, but he didn't see his hand on it.

Continuity: In the first scene of the airport, Ben walked to the automatic door and passed through a pillar, but in the next scene, he didn't reach the pillar, but walked to the place where he appeared in the previous scene.

Continuity: When Ben finished talking with Mr. Robinson after Mrs. Robinson seduced him, he was ready to go home with a glass in his hand. He kept walking in the door with this cup, neither giving it to Mr. Robinson nor putting it down. Then he continued to walk out the door. When he came out, there was no cup in his hand.

Continuity: When Ben was waiting for Mrs. Robinson in the bar, he took out a straw and a cup with ice. When he put the cup away, there was Mrs Robinson's reflection on the table, but there was no ice in the cup.

Continuity: When Brad Doc was sitting in a hotel bed, smoking a cigarette, he walked into the shadows. When his hand appeared in the photo again, the cigarette was gone.
