The geographical location of Shihezi University is: Shihezi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Shihezi University, referred to as "Shida", is located in Shihezi City, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It was jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. It is a national "double-first-class" university, a university jointly built by ministries and provinces, a key university under the national "2 1 1 project", a national "comprehensive strength improvement project for central and western universities" and basic capacity building for central and western universities.

The historical origin of Shihezi University can be traced back to the First Corps Health School founded by the First Field Army of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in 1949. 1996 With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Shihezi Medical College, Shihezi Agricultural College, Corps Normal College and Corps Economic College under the former Ministry of Agriculture merged to form Shihezi University, which belongs to Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

As of February 2023, the campus area of the school was 6,543,802 square meters, and the school building area was 6,543,800 square meters. There are 23 teaching institutions, 6 affiliated hospitals and 94 undergraduate majors. At present, there are 4 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 2 post-doctoral research mobile stations, 9 first-class discipline doctoral degree authorization points, professional doctoral degree authorization points 1, 30 first-class discipline master degree authorization points and 30 professional master degree authorization points.
