Behind-the-scenes production of Truman Show

Creation background

199 1 in may, 2008, the screenwriter andrew niccol completed a page of story outline named Malcolm show. His original intention was to turn it into a sci-fi thriller, and the story took place in new york City. 1 In the autumn of 1993, producer Scott Rudin bought Nicole's script for110,000 dollars, and Paramount Pictures also agreed to release the film.

Producer Rudin wants Nicole to be the director of the film, but Paramount thinks the shooting budget will reach 60 million dollars, lest Nicole be incompetent. Paramount paid Nicole extra money to let a first-line director direct the film. After learning that Brian De Palma missed the film, the producer contacted tim burton, terry gilliam, barry sonnenfeld and Steven Allan Spielberg successively. At the beginning of 1995, peter weir successfully signed a contract to be the director of the film on the recommendation of Nicole.

Although "The Truman Show" is a literary film, its cost is very high, so Ramon Pictures hopes that this film will focus more on comedy than plot. Will, the director, agrees with the producer's idea very much. He thinks Nicole's script is too dark and depressing, and the director wants to make the movie story easier. Before Will made the final decision, Nicole finished the script of draft 16.

View shooting

The Truman Show started shooting in West Side, Florida on February 9, 1996. Director Will wanted to build Truman's residence in the studio, but it was difficult to implement it. So Will and artistic director Dennis Gassner searched the coastal areas of California and Florida for shooting locations. Later, on the recommendation of Wendy Stites, a visual consultant, Will and Gasnat noticed Westside, Florida. After on-the-spot investigation, they found that Siside, which was completed in 1980, is a well-equipped community. There are more than 300 houses with a unified local style, and you can walk to post offices, art galleries, antique shops and other places. So Sid's unique planning became the shooting location of the film.
