Lin Tao's Three werner herzog Documentaries
Tongue twister (1976)
Souvraz volcano (1977)
These three documentaries are on one DVD (I think I bought them on ebay). I sat alone on the floor of my room watching, wearing huge headphones and eating steamed vegetables. I think my MacBook is on the chair, facing me. Saw this DVD in the middle of the night. I went to the early shift that day. I think it's in Angelica's private kitchen, an organic vegetarian restaurant. I worked there for about 10 months, and I didn't have to go to work the next day. I remember feeling "a little confused" when watching these documentaries, or I seemed to "shelve" my world view at that time, partly because as a person with some short/long-term goals, he would feel "useless" when he didn't work hard towards these goals. I believe watching DVD has nothing to do with my life to some extent. At the same time, I also believe to some extent that the "ideal" goal of my life-I often "remind" myself of what I want in the end-is to "get rid of" goals or comparisons, and one day I can be satisfied outside the hierarchy. For example, I can experience that my perception is a "goal" all the time, even if it is "stagnant" from a hierarchical point of view. I watched this DVD in a state of wandering between these two opposing beliefs. But in such a vague, pre-rational, pre-emotional way, it is mainly manifested as a low-level nausea, or a "slight annoyance" feeling caused by forgetting to do something a little important, such as turning off the oven or replying to an email with timeliness requirements.
The first documentary is about the world championship of ski jumping. People wear skis and slide down a high slope at the top of the mountain. The ramp bends upward, people fly into the air, and soon land at a position more than 100 meters away and close to the foot of the mountain. This documentary shows that many people fell down when landing. The main character of the film is a ski jumper named Stayner, who looks better than others. At that world championship, he said he was worried that he would jump too far and fall into an unsafe area and get hurt. He said he was worried because other athletes who were not as good as him could jump almost140m, and the design of this mountain only allowed people to jump about165m at most. Then he jumped 169 meters and fell outside all the distance signs. The organizer shortened the ramp to prevent him from jumping too far. In the second jump, he chose to "block" himself from a lower position on the shortened ramp, which was unprecedented. Then he jumped about 179 meters and was injured. His head is bleeding. He said that Yugoslav judges should further shorten the ramp. Then he took a shorter ramp and jumped again with an injury, jumping 166 meters. Other athletes, using the whole ramp, jumped as far as 140 meters. Stayner is much better than others. Maybe he is strange to most people, but not great.
The second documentary is about the World Livestock Auction Championship. It's about people who can talk quickly and auction quickly. A Canadian won the world championship, and then smiled and kept saying "this is a goal in life", looking a little uneasy or embarrassed. I was really shocked by their speed of speaking. I think about how a rapper should practice rap at such a speed to be different. They look really fast. They also roll their eyes quickly so that they can see it in time when someone bids. I am as shocked as those who have really participated in the world championship of livestock auction, although I know almost nothing about their life, personality and world outlook.
The third documentary is about a completely evacuated island town in the Pacific Ocean, because a nearby volcano is about to erupt. Werner herzog went to an empty city with two photographers. The TV and traffic lights are still on. The town was evacuated quickly, because at 190 1, a small town should be evacuated (also because a nearby volcano was about to erupt), but the mayor told everyone to stay because they had planned to hold an election that day, and then the volcano erupted, killing 30 thousand people. Werner herzog photographed two goats walking in the middle of the road. When they walked towards sunset, he took pictures of them from behind. This looks like a Disney movie. The atmosphere seems very complicated, which makes me a little confused. At some point in the movie, they drove up a mountain, facing the volcano, and a sulfur cloud began to move towards them from above. Werner herzog pointed to the sulfur cloud, said something, or shouted a few words, and they started to run away and ran to their cars. It looks terrible and exciting. The camera is shaking and I can see the sulfur cloud moving towards them.
Then they found some people who were not evacuated and interviewed them A man and a cat are lying under the tree. He seems to be having a good time. He said he wanted to die, not afraid of volcanic eruption. He said he had nothing. He looks calm and in a good mood. The second man they found was walking aimlessly on the road in town. He also said he had nothing to be afraid of. He said something like this: "You can take me to the crater, and I will stay with you, or I will go after I get home. It doesn't matter. " About death, I think at some point he said, "Will it make any difference?" When they started filming him walking from a distance, I recognized his walking style, just like when I was in primary school (probably between grade 3 and grade 6), I wandered around my Florida community in the summer vacation, sometimes holding a stick, but still wandering around, doing something with no clear destination and direction. It seems hard to remember what I was thinking when I walked like that.
[ 1]? The ecstasy of the sculptor Stayner (1974). Regarding this film, in the self-portrait of Herzog (1986), werner herzog said: "When I was young, I had a dream, and I really longed to be the world champion of platform skiing. I received strict training in the national team. At that time, my friend, the best friend I trained with, had a serious accident, and he almost died, which brought me a great shock. It is precisely because of this that my career suddenly ended. At that time, I told myself that I could only make movies. Out of my interesting dream of becoming a world champion, I later completed a movie called "The Ecstasy of the Sculptor Stayner", which may be the movie closest to my heart. "
