Lighting Skills of Still Life Photography _ How to Illuminate Still Life Products

There are many kinds of still life photography. In addition to taking small and fresh still life photos with large aperture, another category is still life photos taken in sheds. Comparatively speaking, shed photography is more about lighting than using natural light. The following is the relevant information I have compiled for you for your reference!

Lighting skills of still life photography

1. Settings for the flash.

After being familiar with the characteristics of light, we should also better understand the equipment in our hands. At present, although there are various flash brands on the market, the author still thinks that the original flash is better than the sub-factory products in terms of brightness accuracy and light uniformity. Here, the author takes Canon 430III, 600EX-RT, MR- 14EX II ring macro flash as an example to introduce the specific use process.

operation sequence/order

① Set two flashlights as the same set of slave flashlights.

② Two external flashlights are respectively fixed on the bracket.

③ Pop up the built-in flash.

Four inches? Built-in flash function setting? Are you there, Will? The built-in flash project is set to? Simple wireless flash?

⑤ Adjust the brightness balance between the subject and the background in M (manual exposure) mode.

2. Rembrandt fill light

Rembrandt is a world-famous Dutch painter. Rembrandt lighting is a special lighting technology specially used to shoot portraits. When shooting, the shadow face of the subject's face faces the lens, and the light illuminates three quarters of the face. The portrait shot by this light method resembles Rembrandt's portrait, hence the name.

Rembrandt cloth light is also called triangle light in photography, which is formed by the projection of brow bone and bridge of nose and the dark area of cheekbone. Photographers borrow oil painting masters? Lighting technology? The shape of the light spot is determined.

As we can see from the picture, the main light is on the side of the character. At the corner, the flash should be as high as possible, and the lowest should be flush with the head of the subject. The auxiliary lamp is mainly filled with front light to eliminate excessive light ratio. The light is head-up and close to the camera. It should be noted here that the greater the light ratio, the greater the contrast of the photo and the harder the hand feel, and the appropriate light ratio can be formulated according to different shooting themes; We should be careful to use triangular light when shooting models with poor three-dimensional sense of nasal bones and eyebrow bones, so that the subject can not only reflect the aesthetic feeling of light, but will expose and exaggerate the shortcomings of the subject; In addition, the main light has no fixed light level, so it is necessary to choose a suitable position for light distribution in order to hit the inverted triangular light block. When the triangular light block is facing the camera side, people's face will look slender and have a strong three-dimensional sense.

3. The use of butterfly lights

Butterfly lamp, also known as beauty lamp, is another common way to fill light, which only needs one light source. Butterfly light can deepen the shadow of a character's cheeks and make his face symmetrically thinner. Should the light be set to produce things like eye shadow, blush and lipstick through the projection of the model's face? Virtual makeup? Effect, let the character's face have a certain sense of hierarchy. Use a flash to emit strong light and hit the model in the face from the front. The model's nose should be facing the direction of the light source and can't look up, otherwise the expected effect will not be achieved. At the same time, the height of the flash should be adjusted so that the visible projection of the model's nose extends just between the nose and the upper lip.

This kind of fill light is simple. Usually, two flashlights can be used. If the equipment is insufficient, you can also use an easy board to complete the shooting. It should be noted that the auxiliary light is weaker than the main light when shooting.

You need to know the kind of light.

1. brightness: the brightness in photography refers to the brightness of the surface of the object irradiated by the light source. Brightness is closely related to the type, nature and luminous intensity of light source, irradiation distance and the reflection ability of physical characteristics of object surface to light.

There are two kinds of light sources used in photography: natural light sources and artificial light sources.

(1) natural light source, that is, through the sun. The intensity of sunlight is constant, but it changes with seasons, weather conditions, time, altitude and geographical latitude and longitude.

(2) Artificial light source, as its name implies, is the light used in all kinds of photography. Artificial light source can ensure stable output, but it is closely related to distance. The closer to the subject, the stronger the light. The farther the distance, the weaker the light.

2. Light quality can be divided into soft light and hard light according to the characteristics of light.

① Strong light: It has obvious directionality, produces clear and heavy shadows, and can make the outline of the subject clear and in sharp contrast.

② Soft light: There is no obvious directionality, resulting in soft shadow and low contrast.

3. Optical level

① Headlight: Also called headlight, it illuminates the subject from the front.

② Side light: The light from the oblique side of the subject is usually divided into front light, backlight and oblique light.

③ Backlight: the light from the back of the subject.

(4) Top light: the light coming from directly above the subject, such as the morning sunlight.

⑤ Footlight: Light from below the subject.

⑥ Scattered light: light without a certain irradiation direction, such as natural light on cloudy days, is suitable for taking portraits and remaking printed matter.

4. Lightweight

Main light: the main light of the subject, which plays a leading role in the expression of the shape, outline and texture of the subject.

(2) Auxiliary light: The main function is to improve the height of the shadow part produced by the main light, so that the shadow part can also present the necessary texture.

Side light: the light used to outline the main body. Separate the object from the background to make it more stereoscopic.

④ Background light: the light behind the subject and shining on the background, which is used to highlight the theme or beautify the picture.

⑤ Decorative lamp: used to decorate the part of the main body to better highlight the main body, mostly used to shoot jewelry.

5. Light ratio, the light intensity difference between the bright area and the dark area on the subject. The greatest significance of light ratio to photography lies in the contrast between light and shade of the picture. Large contrast, visual Zhang Liqiang of the picture; The contrast is small, and the picture appears gentle and soft.

In portrait photography, contrast can represent people well. Gao Fancha is strong, while low contrast is gentle and lovely. In landscape photography and product photography, Gao Fancha has a tough texture; The low-contrast shooting picture looks dull and objective.

6. Light color is the color of light, usually referring to color temperature. Different light colors will have different effects on the demonstration effect, which is of great help to the theme of the demonstration. For example, red symbolizes warmth, yellow symbolizes nobility and white symbolizes purity.
