How many kinds of memory cards are there for digital cameras?

At present, there are many main types of memory cards, including compact flash card (CF card), smart card (SM card) and memory stick (MS card), xD image card, multimedia card (MMC card) and secure digital card (SD card). Let's introduce one by one:

1.CF card

CF card is the earliest memory card, and it is also a favorite memory card. There are many reasons why CF cards are popular, and the most important one is the high quality and low price. Compared with other digital memory cards, the storage cost per unit capacity of CF cards is almost the lowest, and the speed is faster, and large-capacity CF cards are easier to buy.

There are two types of CF cards that we can contact: CF I /CF II. Because the slots of CF memory cards are backward compatible, TypeII slots can be used as both CF TypeII cards and CF Type I cards. Type I slot can only use CF I card, not CF II card. Friends must pay attention when buying and using.

2.sd card

SD card is small in size and widely used in digital cameras. It is a brand-new memory card product jointly developed by Panasonic, Toshiba and Sandisk. Its biggest feature is to ensure the security and confidentiality of data through encryption. The appearance of SD card is consistent with that of multimedia card and compatible with MMC card interface specification. Note, however, that some products, such as mobile phones, SD cards and MMS cards, are incompatible. SD card is more expensive than multimedia card with the same capacity.

3.MS card

Five years ago, Sony produced its own flash memory card, which is a memory stick-memory stick. Suitable for digital products produced by Sony, such as PDA, MP3, digital camera, digital video camera and other digital equipment. Pro memory stick and DUO memory stick derived from memory stick are also the products of Sony memory stick's development to large capacity and small volume.

4.SM card

SM card was first introduced by Toshiba. It only encapsulates the memory chip and does not contain the control circuit. All read and write operations depend on the device that uses it. Although it can be made thin because of its simple structure, it is better than CF card in portability, but its fatal injury is poor compatibility. Once the SM card is used on the MP3 player, the digital camera may no longer be able to read and write. Its market performance has been in a state of dragon bell, and there will be no new equipment to support it.

5.MMC card

MMC card was jointly launched by SanDisk and Siemens in 1997, and its popularity was also touched by SD card. Later, the SD card standard retained the compatibility between devices and MMC cards, that is to say, although devices using MMC cards cannot use SD cards, devices using SD cards can use MMC cards without obstacles, which makes MMC a smooth substitute for SD cards at some time. The size of MMC card is basically the same as that of SD card, but it is thinner than SD card, but its reading speed is still higher. So MMC is also cheaper.

6.xD image card

XD video card is a memory card product after the above-mentioned memory card. It is a product successfully developed by fujifilm and Olympus Optical Industry for the follow-up products of SM cards. It is characterized by small volume and large capacity. XD image card is designed to be the size of a stamp, and its future image storage capacity is as high as 8GB.

Use of memory card

What kind of memory card is used for general products is also related to the company's cooperation policy. For example, some products only support their own memory cards, such as Sony and Panasonic; Some products support various types of memory cards, which is more convenient for users and has won the love of more users. But in general, there is also a certain direction. To sum up:

Digital camera:

1. Sony's digital camera certainly doesn't have to use its own memory card Memory Stick or Memory Stick PRO. There is no objection to this;

2. Panasonic's digital cameras also use SD cards;

3. Canon used to use a relatively cheap CF card, and then gradually moved closer to a small SD card;

4. Before xD card came out, both Olympus and Fuji digital cameras used SM card as memory card. However, after Olympus and Fuji jointly developed the xD card, there is no doubt that they abandoned the SM card with a bleak future together, and the xD card naturally became its storage medium.

Konica Minolta began to merge last year. Before the merger, Konica's digital camera was designed with MS/SD/MMC dual slots, and Minolta used SD/MMC cards. After the merger, all of Konica Minolta's digital cameras use SD/MMC cards as storage media.

6. Samsung is a digital camera manufacturer that follows the trend, so there is no very clear direction for the use of memory cards. Some support SD/MS and some support CF/SD.

7. As for other big manufacturers, such as Kodak, Pentax, Casio and other brands, they all use SD cards as media, so I won't explain them one by one, because the basic direction is towards convenience and portability, and naturally SD cards are the main ones.

PDA:

1. Sony's PDA still uses its own memory card memory stick or memory stick PRO.

2. HP, Dell, PALMONE and other brands mainly use SD card as the main storage medium, and also have SD/CF dual card design.

3. ASUS, Acer, Toshiba and other brands also use CF as the main storage medium, and also have SD/CF dual card design.

As can be seen from the memory card classification of the above products, SD is the most popular and has the greatest potential.

Selection of common memory cards

When we have a digital product, we may start to worry about its scalability and capacity. Choosing a good memory card is actually very difficult, easy and difficult. If you want to know the price, brand and quality of memory cards in today's market, you need to work hard. Let me be a pioneer and help you sweep the market;

1.CF card:

CF card was first developed by SanDisk Company in 1994. At present, there are many brands and choices of CF cards, among which Sandisk, EagleTec, Kingston and Kingmax occupy the market. The mainstream 128MB price 180 yuan, and the 256MB price is 280 yuan, 565438.

2.SD card:

Initially, the SD card jointly launched by Toshiba and Panasonic, because of the introduction of data security mechanism, transplanted the security technology of DVD into flash memory devices, which is conducive to protecting data security and intellectual property rights. At present, few people buy Panasonic original SD card because it is expensive and there are many brands to choose from. The main brands of SD cards on the market are SanDisk, apacer, LEXAR and so on. General mainstream 128MB price 195 yuan, 256MB price 330 yuan, 5 12MB price 560 yuan. This is the price reference for ordinary cards.

3.MS card:

MS card was put into production by Sony in the late period of 1999. The main users are Sony products. Although mainly Sony users, the user base is still quite large. At present, the main brands are Apache, Lexus and Sony. General mainstream 128MB sells in 300 yuan, and 256MB sells in 600 yuan. This is the price reference for ordinary cards.

4.xD card:

In June 2002, Japan's Olympus Co., Ltd. and Fuji Film Co., Ltd. jointly launched xD image cards, which are mainly used for digital cameras of these two companies. At present, the main brands are only Olympus and fujifilm, both of which are relatively expensive. 128MB price 340 yuan, 256MB price 680 yuan.

5.MMC card:

MMC cards are similar to SD cards, and the main brands are similar to SD cards. The price of 128MB is 160 yuan, and the price of 256MB is 260 yuan, which is cheaper than the SD card.

6.SM card:

As for SM cards, they are out of stock because the basic products are no longer used.
