Landscape sketch is a kind of painting form that shows what you see and feel in nature quickly and concisely. It depicts natural scenery, such as mountains, rivers, trees, flowers and buildings.

"Speed" means speed, which is usually understood as "fast". However, "fast" and "slow" are not absolute. A sketch of a landscape can be written in a minute or two, and it can be written in an hour or two or even longer. Therefore, the understanding of landscape sketch can not be simply understood as "fast", but depends on different objects and different forms of expression.

"Writing" means sketching, which is what the author sees and feels in natural life, and also refers to the specific requirements of using a pen when painting. Its characteristics are generality, conciseness and certainty. "Writing" can best express the scenery in spirit and form, the author's emotion and the artistic charm of sketch itself. Therefore, when sketching landscapes, we should not only grasp the word "speed", but also pay attention to the word "writing". Writing is the core and purpose of sketch, and "speed" is the means and method to serve "writing".

In order to draw a good picture of landscape sketch, besides going deep into nature to accumulate and study hard, I think three links are crucial. That is, one must look at the eyes, the other must understand the heart, and the third must look at the handwriting.

First, the eye view is knowledge and understanding.

Nature is colorful and beautiful everywhere. However, at the beginning of sketching landscapes, there are often two kinds of puzzles. One doesn't know what to draw, and the other wants to draw everything, but doesn't know how to deal with it. This requires training our eyes first. We should always go deep into nature to observe and feel, and we should be able to capture the vivid side in the ordinary scenery, not only to grasp the typical things that express the content of life, but also not to ignore a large number of ordinary phenomena that seem ordinary but are full of life breath. At the same time, we should be good at grasping the most touching scene in the complicated natural landscape, grasping the important parts that can best express the feelings of the natural landscape and painters, and deliberately omitting those unimportant details. The same scene will have different aesthetic feeling from different positions, and it will have different effects from different angles. Therefore, cultivating a pair of aesthetic eyes is the basic guarantee for sketching good scenery. Only by feeling beauty first can we arouse the desire to express beauty, and can we paint it as an excellent landscape sketch through conception, framing and composition.

Second, the mind is enlightened, for love and for love.

Landscape sketch is not a purely objective description of the object in photography. The author must penetrate his own subjective feelings while expressing the objective world. In the actual sketch, the generalization and refinement of natural scenery, the selection and addition of materials and so on all come from this. Half of this feeling comes from the eyes and the other half comes from the heart. What people see is intentional. The combination of eye view and mind understanding is the observation method in landscape sketch-"understanding the right". Eye view can only take its shape, and "knowing its correctness" can give birth to feelings. Although landscape sketch is the expression of natural landscape, it also emphasizes the expression of artistic conception and interest. This requires us not only to have keen observation ability on natural phenomena in life, but also to have profound comprehension ability, and to be good at understanding and discovering its interesting life content and artistic conception and interest in natural landscape. And these, some need the author to capture attentively, others need to pave the way deliberately in the performance. A beautiful landscape sketch painting should show the image of scene blending and the transformation of things.

Third, calligraphy is a technique and expression.

Painting ultimately depends on skill. No matter who, even a pair of eyes that are good at discovering beauty, or have superhuman perception of natural scenery, they can't show it, and they can only sigh in front of nature, and sketching out a good scenery can only be an armchair strategist. Therefore, calligraphy is the most substantial link in landscape sketch. Calligraphy is the expression of specific techniques, and different techniques can show different aesthetic effects. If it is the same line, some are relaxed, some are dignified, some are smooth, some are dull, some are slender, some are thick, some are soft, some are rigid, some are slow, some are urgent and so on. Therefore, different objects should be represented by different technologies.

In the natural landscape, there are many opposing relationships, such as shape and meaning, primary and secondary, virtual and real, dynamic and static, density, size, length, weight, straight and straight, front and back, height and so on. Sketching is to unify these opposing relationships with different techniques, so as to achieve the interdependence of form and meaning, the correspondence between primary and secondary, the coexistence of reality and reality, the contrast between static and dynamic, the alternation of density and size, and so on. Technology is of course important, but technology is dead and people are alive, so we must not copy it. The taste of a landscape sketch depends not only on the technique, but also on the artist's accomplishment and conception in painting. Think high, be clever and live. Painting pays attention to techniques, but there is no fixed method. If you can't reach the law, it is the highest law. Therefore, the technique of expression should change with the changes of scenes and feelings.

Landscape sketch not only emphasizes the realism based on his objective object, but also emphasizes the expressive force of painting, whether it is the texture of the object, the author's feeling or the angle of reflecting the space, the relationship between the density of the form and reality, the skill of "work" or "writing", whether it is dignified, rough or lively and beautiful, and the coordination law of refined expression of lines, portrayal of images and picture composition.

Of course, in order to draw a good landscape sketch, in addition to the above three links, we should also pay attention to reading more pictures, including copying. We can get inspiration from the excellent works of our predecessors and find a suitable technique, which can get twice the result with half the effort. Painting is more about going deep into nature and doing a lot of sketch training. Without a stream, there is no way to become a river, and there is not enough skill training. Painting a good landscape sketch can only be empty talk. As long as you constantly experience and practice in nature, you will be able to draw excellent landscape sketches.
