Genius illustrator——Doctor Verchow
When talking about the book "Reader", I think most people are familiar with it. Before I was born, my dad started buying and subscribing to this publication with a strong humanistic flavor and rich content. Gansu has such a few "one bowl of noodles - beef noodles, one river - the Yellow River, one city - Dongfeng Aerospace City, one book - "Reader"", among which the most well-known one has been marketed overseas for a long time. Reader magazine.
As a popular journal, it contains not only good articles, but also many high-level illustrations, paintings, photography, and artwork appreciation. From the beginning when preschoolers enjoyed flipping through book illustrations, to later literacy, reading, and learning to write articles, this process of flipping, reading, and reading "The Reader" lasted from when I was three or four years old until I graduated from high school.
When I was a child, I loved reading the illustrations in Reader magazine. Most of them were black and white line paintings. But my favorite among them is the work of the painter Verccio. His paintings are full of Zen and philosophical atmosphere. With just a few strokes, he outlines a painting that is leisurely and full of philosophical thoughts.
Most children have a dream of flying, thinking that there are immortals living on the clouds. When I was very young, when I saw the illustrations written by Verggio, I immediately thought that this was what the world looked like on the clouds, ethereal, distant, and dense. It was materialized by Dr. Verggio's seemingly simple brushstrokes.
Verggio himself is not a professional painter, but a cardiologist working at Harbin Institute of Technology Hospital. Many times his paintings are drawn on prescriptions, and sometimes on discarded medical records. Because he is a doctor, he can write Latin on the illustrations. Many people will think that he is a foreigner when they see his name. However, Dr. Wei's English is really good. He often takes a big book full of complicated medical terms and asks his colleagues to test himself because he remembers it all. He can even discuss drama theory with others in English.
The colors in Verggio's paintings are very simple, and the lines are simple and smooth. Perhaps due to the instinct of a doctor, he can depict the human body very well.
His paintings have both the freehand brushwork and Zen implications of Chinese landscapes, as well as the profound insight into the disorder of Western abstract paintings.
The "Reader" magazine once held an illustration design competition. I can't remember where Verggio's paintings ranked, but I remember clearly that the "Reader" published an interview with Verggio. Only then did I learn that this painter turned out to be a doctor.
Vercio said that when he was on duty or when he was free, he just took a piece of prescription paper and drew, very casually, and drew whatever came to his mind. He liked to draw a few random strokes by himself since he was a child, and this hobby continued after he became a doctor. He is grateful for the cooperation with Reader magazine and the love of readers.
Perhaps because of his career as a doctor, Verchow's paintings always contain a kind of compassionate care and warmth. Sometimes one or two details will appear in the lonely picture, making you feel warm and comfortable.
I was in my first year of high school in 2007, and it seemed that I hadn’t seen Dr. Verggio’s illustrations for a while. Later, an article was published in "The Reader", which stated that the talented painter Verchio had passed away.
The article states: Vercio suffered from lung cancer.
Verggio himself said that he once used a highly irritating corrosive liquid to add a smudged effect to his paintings. Painting in this way also greatly damaged his health.
But he was still fascinated by it. The ink, psychedelic lines, and compassionate graphics rendered on the paper made it difficult for him to give up.
The process of looking at Verggio's paintings is intoxicating. At first you are attracted by the simple and smooth lines, then you are moved by the compassionate and melancholy temperament, and then you feel that the atmosphere of this painting is actually... It's a bit familiar, until in the end you feel like a traveler walking in the vast wilderness or under the boundless starry sky, small and full of excitement.
Verggio's "Sleepwalking Notes" published thirteen years ago is out of print. It may take a little more effort to see it again today. Verggio is undoubtedly a genius, but he is not withdrawn and even a little funny.
There are many Zen contents in his paintings. Later, when Vercho fell ill, he also converted to Buddhism. Maybe this was an arrangement.
August 29 this year marks the tenth anniversary of the death of Dr. Verggio. As a reader who has been fond of Verggio’s illustrations since childhood, it happened that I discovered that this talented illustrator had passed away when I was thinking of writing something. Ten years.
But in the past ten years, I will still look at Verggio's works. Such thoroughness and understanding in his paintings are rare even among professional painters. I think it should be his identity as a doctor that gave him More understanding and a different perspective.

The play tells the story of Tang Jiayu, director of the cardiac surgery department of Anhe Hospital, and a group of colleagues, who solved the problem of 34 The story of a difficult and rare heart case, and the successful development of a domestically produced "total magnetic levitation artificial heart". I want to make a poster to fight the epidemic. Do you have any good ideas?
In the fight against the epidemic, people are always publicizing the seriousness of the virus. Everyone wears masks and doctors wear protective clothing. It is vulgar and tired of seeing it. I think we need to make the whole country unite and show friendship and work together. Holding hands and connecting hearts, helping each other embodies the style of a great country in socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era!
