What do you mean by gross lesions?

Gross pathological changes refer to the changes of structure, shape, weight and other substances in the human body, which can often be directly observed with the naked eye. For example, organ atrophy, proliferation, inflammation, ischemia, necrosis, cancer and other changes caused by diseases can be regarded as gross lesions. These changes are generally an important basis for pathologists and doctors to diagnose diseases.

The gross pathological changes caused by the disease are closely related to the pathological mechanism. For example, liver atrophy caused by cirrhosis means that liver cells gradually die, fibrous tissue proliferates, and a large number of scar tissues are formed. These pathological changes can not only reflect the pathophysiological mechanism of the disease, but also guide the subsequent treatment of the disease.

The gross pathological changes caused by diseases are of great significance in clinical practice. Clinicians can better understand the pathophysiological mechanism, disease types and severity of diseases by observing and analyzing the systemic pathological changes of patients. This is helpful for doctors to make more reasonable treatment plans and improve the treatment effect and quality of life of patients.
