abstract
Maybe it's all destiny takes a hand ... Ben and jane shaw are a newly married young couple. A professional photographer was sent to Japan for a very important shooting job. He considered taking Jane and arriving there a few days early for their honeymoon. So Ben and Jane arrived in Japan with great excitement, not only because they were infected by exotic customs, but also because they promised to spend a happy life together.
On the way to the cabin at the foot of Mount Fuji, Ben and Jane bent their heads to study the map while passing through a deserted road. Distracted, they couldn't dodge, knocked down a young Japanese woman standing in the middle of the road, and then the car hit a tree. Both of them fainted because of the huge impact ... When Ben and Jane regained consciousness, they were surprised to find that they were sure that the girl who was hit had disappeared without leaving any traces. They immediately felt confused: Is it an illusion? Or did the girl leave without being hurt? The accident cast a shadow over Ben and Jane's initial excitement.
After returning to Tokyo, Ben began to concentrate on filming. At this time, strange things also appeared. In all the photos taken in this photo, there are large white spots similar to negative exposure. If you distinguish carefully, you will find that these white dots are all human shapes, much like the woman who was knocked down by their car ... Jane, who was tortured by guilt, firmly believes that she and her husband met a supernatural phenomenon and that the woman came to seek revenge on them. However, what makes Jane even more puzzled is why the girl mysteriously disappeared after the car accident and then persistently appeared in the photo. Jane decided to investigate the whole thing, knowing that there must be a more terrible truth behind it.
[Edit this paragraph] behind-the-scenes production
A horror film that is not scary.
Ghost is a remake of the 2004 Thailand horror film of the same name. The director is Masayuki Ochiai from Japan. This is his first English work ... a remake of the American version of Ghost, which tells a ghost story full of free imagination in logic and spirit. It is a very typical horror film, which emphasizes not "ghosts" but "ghosts in my heart", which is the most common and mainstream in the film market. This transnational and cross-cultural remake can basically be regarded as a fragile, shallow and worthless magnet. What is lacking most is the norms and guidelines of the film, which makes the story told in this film become dull and abnormal from beginning to end after changing the background and culture, and the plot setting is even more retarded and disgusting, completely ignoring the IQ of the audience.
From this point of view, Hollywood still has a morbid fascination with Asian-made horror movies, and this "ghost" from Thailand has naturally become the latest victim. But now it can be judged by the results. This film is still a seasonal product with no trace and will not leave any memory in people's hearts. As for Masayuki Ochiai, the Japanese horror master, his English debut didn't let him bring his infectious means of creating terror into the western world as he wished. Even though Masayuki Ochiai has been trying to create an invincible atmosphere of terror with a vague, distorted and dark shooting method, it has produced the opposite effect, making it difficult for the audience to see clearly what is happening in the picture and causing visual fatigue. Even a few photos taken in broad daylight left the same impression on the audience.
As we all know, if a film arouses people's antipathy, neither the screenwriter nor the producer will be the first to be condemned. The director will be the first to bear the brunt, and then the actors will be accused ... The only place where the American version of Ghost has not lost its virginity is in Masayuki Ochiai. It is very wise to choose the length of the 85-minute short film, and then target the main audience at a very young age.
It may be the fear of losing some young audiences, or it may be the market pressure from the producers of 20th Century Fox, a publishing company. In a word, Masayuki Ochiai carefully grasped the scale and tried not to let Ghost jump out of PG- 13, but the means he chose were the shortcomings of some very American-style horror movies. For example, cheap logical thinking, tricks that can be seen at a glance, unexpected horror scenes and very bad CGI computer special effects-especially when Jane began to imagine the girl in the car accident staring at herself in a surreal way, this sense of roughness was particularly obvious. As for the image of the ghost girl, it is even more monotonous to the point of sighing, without surprise: too pale face, too black hair, acting like a ghost.
Photos can be regarded as simple and simple, and they are also the most important visual "smoke screen" of this film, but what people can't understand is why they choose those very rough photos to fill in the blanks. This will only show the ridiculous digital technology of the special effects department, because even beginners can take such photos with a stupid camera, and they can't see that the protagonist is actually a professional photographer ... As for the picture and sound effects of the film, they barely passed, but
The flowing Asian wind
It can be seen that the remake of Ghost has been trying to tell a horror story with a surreal material-"ghost". Back in the 65438+60' s, there were always different opinions about the puzzling phenomenon of "taking pictures", which not only led to annoying arguments, but also led to derailment ... Even now, some people still firmly believe that if the world can really capture the phenomenon of ghosts, then the camera will definitely become one of the tools. Not long ago, the Metropolitan Museum of America held an exhibition related to "ghost photos".
Combining the concept of "ghost photos" with another main element "premonition" followed by the film, it becomes a "ghost"-the producer who works behind it is the original behind-the-scenes production team of the American version of Curse and the American version of Midnight Bell. Unfortunately, from the first scene of the film, the writer Luke Dawson's conventional narrative method and oversimplified characterization run counter to the director Masayuki Ochiai's keen emotional devotion and inclination, and even involve and restrict each other. Let's give the simplest example: why Ben still stubbornly refused to believe his wife's words after experiencing the ghost incident personally, and he has never made it clear.
There are too many contradictions in the whole story, and the logic is not refined. It's just some photos that are artificially distorted at first glance, pretending to reveal a lot of supernatural pictures. This film has no driving force at all during its development, and it is full of incredible human behavior. There is nothing but telling us that ghosts don't want to stay in photos. It is worth mentioning that "ghost" is still gorgeous and brilliant in photography, of course, it refers to those images that are not blurred ... especially in Tokyo, which is almost comparable to a tourist propaganda film.
Although Ghost is clearly marked with three categories of horror, mystery and horror, none of them are qualified, and it is difficult to find credible horror or mysterious events in the story from beginning to end. Joshua Jackson and rachael taylor are both very talented actors, but they can't save the fate of this remake. Both roles are cold and dull. Jackson's Ben is too sharp, and only a few close-ups are very attractive. At other times, it is basically "transparent". You should watch the TV series Love Times, in which Jackson is even more memorable. As for Taylor, she also lacks the expressiveness and charm in Transformers last year ... but Jackson and Taylor still work together to create a doubt: people may never be sure who your life partner is, and when you really know the feelings and thoughts of the lover around you-especially when you are full of crisis or make extreme behavior, you will definitely be surprised and disappointed.
For some strange and inexplicable reasons, the American version of the film deleted some very horrible and creepy scenes from the original Thai book, including the night part on the open road ... In the original book, the identity of the missing woman is much more complicated than here, especially the contact with the newlyweds, at least more complicated than they realized. Even if director Masayuki Ochiai keeps the tortuous ending, it is far from the influence of the original.
I wonder if it's because the director is Japanese. The lines in Ghost always give people a feeling of being too simple and neat, as if they were written in Japanese at first, and then translated into English, which are simple and normal small compound sentences ... Now it seems that there is only one purpose of the film, that is, to convince the audience again: why do ghosts haunt you? In fact, it all stems from those shady things in the past.
Just like other PG- 13 horror movies, Ghost is definitely not the kind of work specially made for horror movie fans with dark psychology, and it is more like a bedtime story to put children to sleep ... but I have to admit that Ghost is at least more entertaining and has better performance effect than Ghost. In addition, there are some elaborate and designed scenes, among which the most comfortable ones are the sense of loss and surprising intimidation created by the rapid editing of the lens, which makes the audience nervous a few times.
