Into the pit in W Xiaobai Watercolor —— Painting Materials

When I first saw the effect of watercolor painting, I liked the transparent picture effect very much. At that time, I felt that coloring was so fast! Later, I deeply realized that I was cheated by Tik Tok's fast moving video. In fact, the process of drawing a good work is still very long.

I liked it, so I looked up all kinds of information on the internet and finally found out gouache, watercolor painting and oil painting. I am not professional in their specific differences. I am afraid that I have not made clear the professional art terms and misled my children. Therefore, unclear friends can consult their parents.

In this way, I started the road of zero-based self-study of watercolor painting. I started with painting materials and books and bought them from buy buy. So far, I have taught myself watercolor painting for one year. Because everyone's preferences are different, what I wrote is only a personal summary, which is for reference only and may not be suitable for everyone. In the process of learning, "tuition" must be paid, and the process experience is very important. Only by trying will you know what is best for you.

I. Brush

Look at the picture below, isn't it spectacular? Do you really need so many pens? ! Of course not. In fact, there are only a few commonly used. Let me explain it slowly! After into the pit's watercolor painting, you will find that buying a brush is just like buying lipstick for a woman. It will never end, and I always feel that I am missing one!

At first, I knew nothing. I watched some video tutorials. The teacher said watercolors were painted with brushes, so I bought some brushes and tried to paint, but I always felt uncomfortable. Watercolor water control is very important. For Xiao Bai, who has never used a brush and has no calligraphy skills, there are often uncontrollable situations. Spent some money, the painting effect is not good. At that time, I felt that the brush was not suitable for watercolor painting, so I bought a watercolor pen. At first, I started with Rubens' 4#2#2 watercolor pen, thinking that I could start flying! As a result, I missed again, the pen tip was inelastic, it could not be restored after painting, and the peak gathering was not enough. It is only suitable for color pavement and cannot be completely maintained; It seems that my skills are not enough. I recommend seeing someone else's hand in the doo-doo video. These two watercolor pens are basically unused and have always been uncontrollable. They are occasionally used to spread water.

After a period of exploration, I finally saw the relevant recommendations, and started to take a break in Qiuhongzhai (32 yuan), which is really super easy to use! Highly recommended, you must buy it. It can't be wrong. It is a pen with high cost performance. The effect of storing water and gathering peaks is good, and the details of painting are also acceptable.

Because of the previous experience comparison between brush and watercolor pen, I suddenly feel that I can paint watercolor, haha, it's really amazing, which only shows that brush is really important! This pen is also a very frequent one I used later. When traveling, a pen is enough, drawing from beginning to end. Please ignore the scratches on the nib. That's because my pen washing tool started out as a plastic round lunch box with scratches on the edge of the pen. Later, it was changed to ceramic pen washing, and it did not continue to be damaged. I have the opportunity to buy another one in the future.

Later, I saw that many people recommended the black swan watercolor pen (10 pen 94.5 yuan). Because of Rubens' experience, I was cautious and started a pen with 10, which is also very easy to use. It's bigger, it can be painted with colors or painted with details, which is the perfect autumn harmony. I recently started Black Swan 6 (69 yuan), and it didn't disappoint me.

It is highly recommended that friends who have never been to into the pit buy Qiu and Black Swan watercolor pens, which are cost-effective and really easy to use. You won't miss them. First of all, you can buy Black Swan marker 10 and 6 directly. Of course, Alvaro's Red Fat No.0 and Leonardo da Vinci's V35 watercolor pens should also be very easy to use, and friends with sufficient budget can buy them, which is also a very good recommendation. For the time being, I finally understand why art students are poor, because painting materials are really expensive.

Finally, let's talk about using it to underline or depict some details, or to recommend Autumn. The third and fifth pens in the picture below are very easy to use and the lines are very smooth; At first, it was enough to buy only the third picture of Qiuhongzhai dandelion Gou Xianbi (22 yuan), and the fifth picture of Qiuhongzhai Yuqian Gou Xianbi (64 yuan) was used by me to draw long lines in big paintings; The sixth pen in the picture below is Hua Hong No.0 (12 yuan), which is used to draw very detailed places, such as the hair on the forehead. The seventh pen is touch's nylon pen, which was given by the merchant when I bought the painting materials. I use it to highlight or cover paint.

Recently, I am fascinated by Huahong watercolor pen, and nylon watercolor pen is very good in his home. The very large water brush on the far right in my family photo is from Hua Hong, which is very soft and evenly brushed.

Brush There is a fan-shaped bristle pen on the right side of the family photo, which is used to sprinkle some pigments on the last picture, or you can directly use the brush to do the sprinkling effect. I can't control it well and seldom use this method. There are also some big brushes on the right, which are used to spread the background color, sometimes used.

The following pens are my usual brushes for painting.

1 and 2 are black swans 10 and 6; The third is Qiuhongzhai dandelion; Four is Qiu; Five is Qiu; 6 is Hua Hong 0; 7 is touch's nylon pen.

The first four are enough for the little friends who just started painting.

Then I will talk about other pens, which are also used in the process of painting. I usually draw with a pencil first, some can draw directly, some can draw lines and then draw, of course, some great gods don't need to draw at all, and it's no problem to draw directly.

1, pen: from left to right, 1, 2,3 are three pens; I like to draw pen lines before watercolor painting. I used a hero's art pen (the third one in the picture below), and the nib was curved, which was very suitable for drawing lines with different thicknesses. I study watercolor painting and like the style of pen pastel very much, so I bought a hero, but its nib is very ordinary and a little thick; So I bought a Ling Mei F-tip first, which was a little expensive, but I still didn't think it was thin enough, so I didn't care. Recently, I took a fancy to Bai Le's imperial concubine's EF tip, and I plan to start with it. PS: Yes, there is some paper on the tip of the pen. )

2. stylus: the thinnest stylus is the EF tip, which is about 0.3 of the thickness of the stylus. Many details still need a stylus. Just buy a few common specifications, such as: 0.05, 0. 1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, which is enough. I lost a 0.05 pen and there are only four left. Temporarily replace it with a touch stylus. It is not recommended to buy a stylus for touch. It's cheap, but the water is not smooth enough to be used. Or buy a KINOMOTO SAKURA stylus, cost-effective. It also comes in various colors. I only bought a black one, so remember to buy a waterproof stylus, or I will faint if I color it.

(PS: Later, I bought a Mitsubishi stylus. Comparatively speaking, I recommend buying Mitsubishi stylus, which is easier to use than KINOMOTO SAKURA and the price is similar! )

3. Li Xiu pens: The four black pens in the middle of the picture below are very thin, small, medium and large. It's a soft-headed pen, which is very easy to use for friends who don't know how to use a brush. But I don't recommend you to buy this one, because it's not waterproof, and it will faint after crossing the line and the picture will be dirty. Although it is also a good effect, it will ruin your painting if it is not well controlled. These four white ones on the right are waterproof, Japanese brands. I bought it for so long that I forgot the name.

(PS: Later, I bought a beautiful cherry pencil, which is very easy to use! It is recommended to buy a waterproof series of beautiful pens for cherry blossoms. )

4. High-gloss pen: This is used when finishing the pictures at last. It is recommended to buy Mitsubishi high-gloss pen, which is very easy to use!

5. mechanical pencil: I put two in the picture below, one is 0.5 (white) and the other is 0.3 (black); 0.5 mechanical pencil stationery store bought it casually, 0.3 mechanical pencil only bought it online, and mine is 0.3 mechanical pencil of Sakura, which is more cost-effective; There are many other brands, such as Schneider and Bai Le, which are all good, but a little expensive. Pay attention to the automatic lead here. Generally, there are 2H, HB and 2B automatic cores. Usually children use it for homework, and we usually use HB. But the online manuscript on watercolor paper should be as light as possible, so we will choose a mechanical pencil of 0.3. I usually use 2H lead, but 2H is a little hard, and it is easy to leave marks if my hand strength is not well controlled. It is recommended to use 2B lead, which is easy to rub. Everyone can experience it and find the lead core that suits them.

I also want to talk about rubber here. I put three types in the picture below-strip rubber, artistic rubber and plastic rubber; Wipe the eraser clean, and don't hurt the paper. Watercolor paper is pure cotton, and it is easy to scratch and fluff when the line draft is revised repeatedly.

6. Water-soluble colored lead: colored lead can be divided into oily colored lead and water-soluble colored lead. Water-soluble colored lead can be dissolved in water. Oily colored lead is unacceptable. Be sure to pay attention Don't buy the wrong one for a friend in need. Why do I mention water-soluble colored lead here? Because watercolor pigments are characterized by transparency. If the color is not thick or dark, you can't cover the pencil line draft of the manuscript. People who have high requirements for pictures and don't want to read pencil line drafts can try to use water-soluble colored lead to start the manuscript and dissolve it after coloring. Please search for which brand and how many colors to buy. Lead painting is another painting category. If we keep walking, it will be dawn soon. Haha, 500 words are omitted here.

Second, watercolor pigments

Common watercolor pigments in the market are divided into tubular paste pigments and solid watercolor pigments.

Some big-name paints are too expensive. You can start with some sub-packaging, experience the color and effect, and spend money after you like it!

In fact, the watercolor pigments I have used have never used solid watercolor pigments except Wu Cai, and I will consider starting next; Beginners can buy solid watercolor pigments of Windsor Newton, Smenk, White Night and other brands according to their own budgets. In fact, watercolor pigments can be painted for a long time, or they can be a little more expensive.

The picture below shows the pigments and inks I usually use for watercolor painting.

Share some watercolor paints I have used:

Japanese Wu color solid watercolor 24 colors (125 yuan)

A slightly better brand of solid watercolor feels expensive and hurts! It seems that up to now, I haven't bought a three-dimensional watercolor that I like; The only solid watercolor I bought was the following one-Japanese Wucai 24 colors. At first, I didn't know much about pigments either. After reading some introductions, I started hastily.

The effect is satisfactory. Because new pigments were tried later, they were gradually ignored. It can be used to draw Chinese paintings, so the debugging is coarse and has a covering effect.

Windsor Newton tubular 24 colors (42 yuan)

I used Caiyi Wu for a while. Because of the poor control of water, color debugging always feels awkward. I started with the following one-Windsor Newton tubular 24 colors, which is a watercolor pigment suitable for beginners; Actually, I wanted to buy Gwen, but I bought it by mistake.

This product has high cost performance and rich and bright colors. Tubular pigments are very convenient when they need a lot of color matching. Can be used by extrusion, capacity 10ml, and can be made vigorously, haha! There are many left now.

Later, in order to save money, I bought an iron box with 24 homemade watercolor boxes (29.5 yuan). The box looks like this. I will take it with me when I travel. Many online sub-packaging businesses also adopt this model, or a smaller 30% discount box. The following is what I bought and repackaged for Smnk. You can refer to it

Here, I suggest that when you buy sub-packaging, try to buy this box with its own palette, which is much more convenient to use. There is no need to clean up the area where the box is used up, and there will be unexpected high-grade ash in the later stage of color matching! When a clean color is needed, just wipe the clean area.

Holbein 24-color 0.5ml subpackaged pigment (42 yuan)

Holbein bought painting animals, and the colors are very fond of them. Later, he can continue to buy them. I bought it to study with the book "Dream Painting", and the pigments in the book are yes. I often buy pigments with the tutorials in books, mainly to learn the teacher's color matching and tutorials.

You can see the difference from the price, 0.5ml42 yuan, windsor Newton primary pipe 10ml42 yuan! To tell the truth, although the effect is really different, but the price difference is also very big, friends choose, experience and see which one you like better.

Next time I want to experience the repackaging of Meriblue, I feel that many people recommend it! The following are the packaging of various brands, slowly and slowly experience!

Smenk's 24-color 1ml repackaged pigment (129 yuan)

This pigment was also bought with the book tutorial. Smenk is divided into student level and master's college level; I bought a master's degree. At first, I didn't like this color very much because it was a little gloomy. I felt it when I drew the color card. There are still some uneven color development problems, and I am very disappointed. Maybe it's my personal preference. It is estimated that Smenk's students have a better level and will try again in the future.

But I have been painting some antique paintings recently, and Smenk seems to be very suitable. I'm starting to use more. Sometimes painting is a mixture of several colors.

Skin color pigment 12 color (35 yuan):

I just started to learn watercolor, and it is a bit difficult to mix colors. I didn't know how to adjust the colors when drawing characters, so I bought a special palette of 12 colors. The colors in the palette are all selected by the store from the colors of various brands, which completely solves the problem of skin color debugging.

Spyker Watercolor 3-color Set Pigment (20 yuan);

I bought this color by accident. At that time, I just learned the three primary colors and mixed them into a 12 color ring, so I bought its three-color suit (red, yellow and blue), which was almost useless in the later period. However, it is said that their single-layer paint works very well, and I have been hesitant to start.

Ink/Ink:

If it is Chinese painting ink, I recommend a German pavilion. But what I want to say here is pen and ink. It is suggested to buy catfish ink 15ml for sub-packaging (26.8 yuan). It is waterproof. At first, I used it to draw a light pen. Later, I found that the effect of drawing lines with a brush is also very good, and it will not be dizzy, and the picture is much cleaner. Just buy 15ml at first and repackage it. It will last for a long time. I bought two colors, Eternal Black and Polar Bear Brown. Of course, you can also use a brush to draw lines with ink. Good water control, a little dizzy effect, is not necessarily a bad thing. The charm of watercolor painting lies in uncertainty, which will give you surprises and accidents in the process of painting. Haha, I often encounter accidents and scares; Little friends, be bold, many pigments can be tried.

Bai Mo liquid (28.8 yuan):

I must buy this. I want to draw highlights. I used Bai Mo liquid, a Japanese black-and-white pigment. This watercolor high-gloss ink is opaque and thick, which can be covered. Adding more water has a translucent effect, which is quite useful. Easy to dry, add some water to debug when it is dry, and it will not affect the use.

In addition, gouache, traditional Chinese painting white pigment and acrylic white pigment can also be used for high-gloss treatment. They are all opaque and can be mixed. I think this is how Mr. Sugizawa treats the snow scene. However, I have never used it like this before. I use this Bai Mo liquid and the white pigment of Marley's Chinese painting at most.

Gold powder and silver powder pigment (14.7 yuan 30ml):

There are some places in watercolor painting that need the effect of blingbling. Gold powder and silver powder are good decorative colors. I used Pentel gold powder and silver powder from Japan. Recently, when I was practicing color matching, I mixed these two colors with watercolor pigments, and found that the effect after color matching was excellent, so I made a color card and tried to draw it later. In fact, pearlescent watercolor pigments are also very popular. Wu Zhu, daniel smith DS and Rubens all have pearlescent watercolors, which I haven't tried yet. Mixed color debugging is an accident, but it feels good. Interested friends can try it.

Mali Chinese Painting Pigment 24-color Tubular Pigment (39 yuan)

Finally, this classic pigment of Chinese painting, because I like Sugizawa's "View of Mountains and Seas", is a great artist. His pigments are very simple, that is, Marley traditional Chinese painting pigments and Windsor Newton tubular; Therefore, many of my later paintings were mixed with these two pigments, and I drew many paintings of Shan Hai Jing series.

Third, watercolor paper.

Watercolor paper is divided into wood pulp paper and cotton pulp paper, and some brands are mixed with wood pulp and cotton pulp paper, that is, mixed cotton pulp.

I started with wood pulp paper, which is difficult to use, with insufficient water absorption and poor smudging effect. The color of watercolor floats on paper, which is prone to waterline; I bought a lot of wood pulp paper and drew some, only the bottom of the wardrobe. Recently, I tried to take a picture of a god beast painting mountains and seas. Although I barely finished painting, I still intend to give up.

Mixed cotton pulp paper, drawing a few more times will be fuzz, and it will not change. The picture is always dirty, and I groped for it for a long time before I bought Humboldt cotton pulp paper. The final effect of watercolor painting is really important. Beginners are advised to choose at least Humboldt paper.

Beginners strongly recommend using pure cotton pulp paper! Be sure to buy cotton paper! Be sure to buy cotton paper! Emphasize the important things three times! Ha ha! Humboldt is the first choice, and Dover and Ashima are also worth recommending. There is nothing wrong with it except that it is a little more expensive. You can buy it and experience it.

Thickness: It is recommended to buy more than 300g of paper. Paper that is too thin will wrinkle after being spread with water.

Specification: watercolor paper is divided into coarse paper, medium paper and fine paper. It is recommended to buy medium paper. You can buy thin lines when drawing characters. I bought some at first, but it soon dried up and was out of control. The back is always made of medium-coarse textured watercolor paper.

Grade: This refers to Humboldt paper. Its watercolor paper is divided into college level and artist level. I have used both of them, and I feel that the effect is not much different. Theoretically, the effect of artist level should be better. You should buy it according to the situation. The artist's is more expensive. Haha, just buy it, and you will know after you have experienced it.

Size: The recommended sizes of watercolor paper are 32K, 16K, 8K, 10.5cm, 8K is equivalent to the size of A3 paper, 16K is equivalent to the size of A4 paper, and 32K is half the size of 16K. You can buy it according to your own drawing size. I started to buy from 32K,16k; Sometimes when the small paper is used up, I will cut the big paper smaller, which is also good, as long as you have a sharp paper cutter.

Price: Humboldt paper price, 20 sheets of 60 yuan in 8K300g, 20 sheets of 29 yuan in 16K300g and 20 sheets in 32K300g; The price of ASHI, 32K300g, 10 piece of medium-thick 34 yuan. Look at the price difference between Oichi and Humboldt, the price difference is more than twice.

Watercolor paper (packaged or boxed)

The following is the paper I usually use, mainly the subcontracting of Humboldt, with different sizes. Recently, I have drawn some headshots. I use Humboldt's postcard watercolor paper in the lower corner of the picture below, which is smaller than 32K paper150 *100 mm. The square in the middle is paper. I bought it because I wanted to feel the effect, but it was useless.

The round iron box in the upper right corner is martini's round shape 10.5cm, with a medium thickness of 300g(35 yuan). It's cute to draw a circle. This is mixed cotton pulp, not suitable for beginners. Familiar with some watercolor techniques can start. I basically used up this box and drew some lovely pandas, animals and so on.

Many watercolor papers abroad are mixed with cotton pulp, and the mixing ratio of wood pulp and cotton pulp is different. Some 50% cotton pulp is better, and many are 25% cotton pulp. Please look at the ingredients carefully when you buy them. Haha, actually, you can see it directly from the price.

In addition to loose watercolor paper, there is also a watercolor book, which is convenient to carry and store when you go out to paint.

The first watercolor book 16K200g of French canson barbizon is not thick enough. It's wrinkled after painting, and the smudge effect is very poor. I don't like the texture of this painting very much. I used this painting and calligraphy in pastel ink, and I don't intend to use this brand of watercolor paper after I use it.

The top two watercolors in the picture below are Rubens' four-sided sealed color book, the big one is 16K300g medium thickness, and the small one is 32K300g medium thickness; Rubens's watercolor is semi-cotton pulp paper, which will be degummed when painted in water, and the smudge effect is average, so it is not easy to modify. If you apply it several times, it will be fluffy and barely colored, not as good as Humboldt's paper. However, I still finished painting two watercolor books, thinking of running out in tears.

Rubens' watercolor pens and watercolor books made me quite disappointed, although I also saw that some people commented that Rubens' solid color pigments were good and wanted to start several times; However, on second thought, I still gave up. I'm going to give up the brand Rubens.

Finally, Humboldt's (16K300g) four-sided adhesive color book, medium thickness (34 yuan). Compared with the above two watercolor books, it is really much easier to use, and it won't degum if you put more water on it. Compared with bulk paper, it is better to use, because all sides are sealed, so there is no need to worry about paper wrinkling, and it will be flat after painting.

There is also a small and portable Humboldt watercolor book, 300g medium thick, which is not used much. I drew some when I went out to travel.

The picture below shows the picture effect, Rubens in the lower left corner, Martini in the round iron box in the upper right corner, and Humboldt in the others.

Comparatively speaking, beginners still recommend Humboldt. After you have a good knowledge, you can try cotton pulp and wood pulp mixed paper. However, if you can't really afford it, choose Humboldt! Buy less, you will understand what I mean after you have experienced it. The experience and effect of painting are still very different.

Fourth, other tools.

Tape: This tool has a high appearance. I use it every time I draw. Generally, I choose orange or white, and the kraft paper is wet mounted, which is difficult to handle after painting. I bought a lot, but I have hardly used it. They have different widths, so choose according to your needs.

Blanking solution: I seldom use it. The earliest exercise was used several times, and then it was left blank manually, or finally it was handled with Bai Mo high-gloss pen.

Pen mop: used to put pens. It's cute, which adds to the fun of painting. I like this red puffer fish best. It has the highest appearance rate in my paintings.

Palette: I also bought a bunch of debugging discs, and finally found that the ceramic palette is the best. I even use home dishes to color, which is very easy to use; Later, I bought a set of duck components below, which is very cute; However, I still don't use it much. I usually debug the color directly on the water color box, and only use this duck when the amount of color is large.

Watercolor media: Watercolor is salted, and edible salt can be used at home; I bought a small bottle 15ml, and the Himalayan rose salt pigment has a special flowering effect, which is basically useless.

Pen washing: I bought ceramic tea washing, not pen washing.

Portable small bucket: it is convenient to travel and can be folded.

Pen bag: It is best to use a rolling pen bag for brush and watercolor pen to avoid hurting the brush hair; Other tools are packed in a pencil box.

Pen container/pen holder: wash the watercolor pen in time after use, put it flat in the pen container after drying, and hang the brush on the pen holder.

Cow bile: You may see someone showing off the spreading effect of paper or watercolor paint in the video. The picture effect is really pleasing to the eye, and I feel that watercolor has life on paper. In fact, in addition to the good quality of watercolor paint and paper itself, the great gods also added bovine bile to the paint, and friends who like it can buy it and experience it. A few of them can be repackaged. I bought a big bottle, but I haven't used it so far, because I haven't painted a painting that needs large area coloring, and the watercolor technique is still upstream, so the painting is relatively simple. Another fact is that I don't like painting landscapes very much, so I need less coloring, which will be strengthened later.

Packaging bag: how to preserve the finished painting? At the beginning, all my exercise pictures were posted on the wall, and the walls of the studio were covered with pictures. Of course, they will curl up because of the humidity. Later, there were too many paintings, and all the 20 19 paintings were put away; It can be kept in a sealed bag, but it is not convenient to browse. I bought photo album folders and folders. I also went to IKEA to see the photo frame, and later satisfactory works can be placed in the photo frame and hung on the wall.

At present, my paintings are still stored randomly, because the paintings are not very good and there are many bugs in the pictures. Chengdu is humid, watercolor paper is all cotton, so we should pay attention to moisture-proof, otherwise it will be moldy after a long time.

The above is my introduction to painting materials. W Xiaobai's watercolor painting History of into the pit's Blood and Tears is for reference only. First of all, I wish all my friends a happy into the pit. You will gain a lot from your experience.

****************

Voice-over: "Mom, why are you called W Xiaobai?" "Because the initials of Ma Ma's Chinese name and English name are both W, Xiao Bai says he doesn't understand anything!"

Draw life, draw time; No matter whether the painting is good or not, painting is an expression of emotion and a love for life!
