Working principle of rocket escape tower

The working principle of the rocket escape tower is as follows:

The working principle of the escape tower is very simple, that is, when necessary, directly disconnect the manned spacecraft from the rocket, then quickly leave the vicinity of the rocket with the power of the escape tower, and start the spacecraft's own return landing system in a safe area and height. It is usually used a few hours before launch and 2 minutes after launch.

In order to meet the needs of manned spacecraft, the design of escape tower was added to the rocket based on two bundles, making the Long March II F rocket the longest of all launch vehicles in China. The escape tower of the Long March II F rocket is directly related to the safety of astronauts. The escape tower is connected with the astronaut seat and equipped with an intelligent escape engine.

Once the rocket detects a fault during launch, astronauts can leave the rocket by escaping from the engine. The escape tower, also known as the escape tower, is installed at the top of the spacecraft and consists of a tower, an escape engine and a separation engine (all solid rocket engines). In an emergency, the escape engine will ignite quickly, so that the astronaut capsule (return capsule) will be separated from the solid rocket and leave the danger zone quickly.

Then separate the engine to start, separate the cockpit from the tower, and make the cockpit land safely with other recovery systems. The escape system is complex in structure and consists of five kinds of solid motors and the upper part of the fairing. The five engines are escape main engine, separation engine, yaw pitch engine, high-altitude escape engine and high-altitude separation engine.
