Results of Wuxi Bridge Rollover Accident (Accident Cause Analysis and Lessons Summary)

A bridge under construction in Jiangyin City, Wuxi City suffered a rollover accident on July, 2002 1 day, causing heavy casualties and economic losses. Through investigation and analysis, the accident was mainly caused by improper operation and inadequate safety measures during construction. This incident has sounded the alarm for us, reminding us to strictly follow the norms and strengthen safety management, so as to avoid similar incidents from happening again.

Accident cause analysis

After the accident, the relevant departments conducted a detailed investigation and analysis on the construction process of the bridge. Through field investigation and analysis of relevant data, it is considered that the accident is mainly caused by the following reasons:

1. Improper operation during construction.

In the process of bridge construction, the operator did not operate according to the requirements of the specification, and there were serious violations. For example, protective measures such as seat belts are not used as required, safety inspection and acceptance are not carried out, and construction arrangement and scheduling are not carried out as required.

2. Safety measures are not in place

In the process of bridge construction, the construction unit did not conduct a comprehensive evaluation and analysis of the project safety, and did not formulate perfect safety measures and emergency plans. At the same time, there are also shortcomings in the safety supervision and management of the construction site. There is no safety education and training for the construction personnel, and there is no comprehensive safety inspection and monitoring of the construction site.
