Sometimes I think it's really necessary to step on the time when walking on the streets of Shanghai. Walking in the street when the sun is shining is something I often do, which may be related to my lust for comfort in the mottled shadow of the sun.

I like to explore the old roads in the hot sun, quiet streets, old houses with traces of annual rings, and scraped leaves picked up everywhere. It is easy to get great satisfaction and make me laugh with super high sugar content.

Things are always unexpected. When there is no sun, I want to go out and sweep the street, but it is also very interesting to meet the dead leaves of the phoenix tree on a cloudy day. Natural Donghu Road is no exception. I came to this path on a cloudy day.

Donghu Road is very short, with a total length of only 475 meters, but the story inside is extraordinary. Southeast-northwest, the northwest is Changle Road, Xiaozi, and the southeast is connected with the bustling Huaihai Middle Road. Walking in Huaihai Middle Road, you may miss it if you are not careful, and miss this path full of mysterious stories.

Donghu Road, built in 1902, was originally named Dumet Road, named after Dumet, the French Governor in Vietnam. It was renamed Donghu Road only at 1943 and is still in use today. Donghu Road used to be a famous high-grade residential area in Shanghai. The houses in the depths of the alley are independent courtyards, leaving behind houses and stories with a hint of mystery.

Mysterious building

The most concentrated place of the whole road is No.7 Donghu Road, and the courtyard is the famous "Grand Mansion" in Shanghai. Although it has been opened to the outside world, it still has its mystery.

"Mansion" is a French Renaissance garden residence built in 1925. Built in 192 1, it was designed by the French. To the south of this garden house is a triangular courtyard with a combination of Chinese and western styles. The pale white wall gives people a sense of tranquility and nobility. A row of tiger window frames on the brown roof are red.

Brown and ivory chimneys stand on the roof and are hidden among the green trees. In my opinion, it is somewhat fairy tale, which may be related to the large green lawn that can be seen at a glance. The middle part of the south facade of the building is an open corridor with stepped columns protruding slightly forward at both ends, and the second floor corridor is decorated with baroque and double pilasters. The main entrance of the east facade is Tashkent colonnade.

The facade is divided into three sections, some of which are clear water red brick walls, and the window eaves and windowsills are decorated with water brush stones. The window lintel is decorated with ribbon patterns carved with plants, there is a baroque scroll on the roof, and two pillars of love Onek stand by the window.

Before 2002, it was a garden villa with a locked door and was mistaken for Du's residence. In fact, the original owner of this house was a Jewish businessman, Ray Joseph. This French garden residence has been used as a private residence since its completion to 1949. Its last owner was an Englishman named Hannah Joseph.

After liberation, No.7 Donghu Road was once the residence of "Soviet cultural institutions in China". Later, it was under the control of the municipal government, and many senior * * * stayed here.

Donghu Road 17

Donghu Road 17 Youth Daily, a western-style garden residence, was built in 192 1. Eclectic style, red tiles and white walls. The cornice parapet is quite rich, and the whole building is completely symmetrical. The south-facing facade facing the garden is the main facade, with clear horizontal and vertical sections, and the middle part is concave. The facades at both ends are composed of continuous coupons and simplified classical giant columns. The column between the window and the corner column is square, forming obvious symmetry. Other facade forms are natural, rich in composition and the roof changes. At first glance, this is the house of a big family in the past.

This beautiful building has also changed hands several times. It once lived in the Belgian consulate and later became the private residence of senior Kuomintang officials. After liberation, it was used by East China Jiaotong University and Shanghai Branch of Central Conservatory of Music, and later used as the dormitory for female students of internal medicine in Shanghai First Medical College. 1964 In the spring, the former Youth Newspaper at No.43 Fumin Road moved in.

Donghu road 56 lane

This is no ordinary alley. Many outstanding people live here, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Shanghai's celebrities, politicians and dignitaries have all lived here. For example, the boss of the famous brand Hengyuanxiang and his descendants once lived here.

No.22, Lane 56, Donghu Road is the former residence and training ground of Gai Jiaotian, a famous Peking Opera master in 1950s. Gai Jiaotian's acting skills are superb, forming a unique Gaipai art of "singing martial arts", which is well-known in the north and south of the country. Therefore, he is known as "the first martial artist in the south of the Yangtze River" and "the living" is tied with Mei Lanfang and Zhou as "the three outstanding Peking Opera".

Located at No.39, Lane 56, Donghu Road, the white four-story apartment built at 1940, once occupied by Soviet experts, is now the third building of Donghu Hotel. 50 to 50, it turned out that Zheng Guang lived with his boss; Lane 16 is the place where the former cigarette factory owner lived.

The present Donghu Hotel is located at No.70 Donghu Road, formerly known as Du Mansion. It is said that this is a mansion where Du has never lived for a day. Donghu Hotel used to be one of his residences, and once worked as a bank here. No.26 Road is a new building that Du recently bought. It's beautiful, and the courtyard in Tsinghua, Shui Mu is elegant and chic. After buying it, he left Shanghai without a job for a day because of the war.

There are many roads in Shanghai, and many old houses and big stories are hidden in many small roads. Every story may be a record and microcosm of the previous era, and perhaps this is the charm of Shanghai.
