Why do some photographers never use camera straps?

In my understanding, there are only two situations. If you have anything else, please add it.

First, photographers who use multiple cameras to shoot.

When shooting with two cameras, it is not very convenient for photographers to use shoulder straps as a way to fix cameras, and more often they choose fixing straps.

This kind of switching is more convenient, with belt and diagonal strap, and the reaction time is faster when shooting.

The second is a cameraman who takes video with a video camera.

The camera does not need a shoulder strap to shoot video, because it often needs to be switched on small auxiliary equipment such as tripod, stabilizer and slide rail, so it does not need to be hung around the neck at all. The use of shoulder straps not only is bulky, but also affects the camera balance to some extent.

I never take videos with my shoulder straps.

Who said the camera belt was useless? Stand up! I promise I won't kill him! As a professional photographer, shooting is like a battlefield. A camera is a gun in your hand. Gun protection is the first principle! The camera belt is the protective cover. The camera without the protective cover is very fragile, and the camera price has always been a luxury!

In my words, I can't take my camera without it. I'm sorry, I'm not really unstable, just insecure. I habitually grab my thumb and pull the camera strap. In this case, even if my hand really slipped, I can guarantee that the camera is intact and will not fall off because of my hand slipping. A camera is expensive, but a lens is more expensive. No one can guarantee which parts will be damaged if you fall to the ground. A photographer with a camera belt is not necessarily a good photographer, but a good photographer will definitely install a camera belt!

Of course, there is another situation, the camera!

When I shoot with a SLR, the first thing I do is take off the camera belt. Don't ask me why. Shooting is not photography. Shooting with a tripod requires all kinds of auxiliary equipment at most. Auxiliary devices such as slide rails and stabilizers have no pressure on the camera itself. Once the camera belt is installed, it is very heavy, and with the camera swinging, it increases the unstable factors, thus affecting the shooting effect! You can take pictures without a camera belt, but you must take pictures!

I'm not used to wearing shoulder straps either. I don't know why others do this. Let me talk about my feelings.

I mainly feel that it is in the way, especially in the workplace. When I put my camera on the table, I am worried that someone will cover my shoulder strap. When you go out to shoot the scenery, it's easy to wind up the tripod. It is uncomfortable to hang it around your neck or around your hands when you walk, and it is easy to be scratched when you hang it down.

I am used to wearing a wristband for my camera, which can stabilize my body at work and even shoot with one hand. It is also very convenient and safe to walk. Even if you let go and shake, the camera will not fall.

In terms of wristband price, ordinary tens of dollars, expensive hundreds of dollars. I don't think brand is important. It's best to buy genuine leather, which will be more comfortable to wear.

In addition, whether the shoulder strap of the camera is hung on the neck or back, the camera will shake back and forth when walking. I suggest that the camera can be equipped with a belt, which can be hung on the waist when not in use.

Not only can you free your hands, but it is also more convenient to change the lens.

Why not use Peak's shoulder strap? Why are you hanging around your neck? Can't you cross it sideways? Put on the slide rail and tripod, and take off the shoulder strap for one second. Wristbands are just as convenient and can be shrunk. The triangular ring on the fuselage can be removed and thrown away.

If you use a SLR, personally, a good shoulder strap is still very needed. For heavier cameras, the strap is very traditional, but it is very necessary. Because the strap is more stable than other ways of carrying.

Personally, I am very opposed to those so-called professional photographers using daily traders' straps for fun or convenience. Because day traders' suspenders have great shortcomings. Its two fatal shortcomings:

1. There is only one connection point, which makes the camera unstable when it is carried on the side, and the camera will rotate.

This kind of rotation is very dangerous. The first one is an object that causes the lens to hit the side, such as a wall; The second danger is that the only connection between the bottom of the day trader's belt and the camera, the screw, may be reversed and loosened.

If you use a day trader's strap with a quick-loading board, you won't encounter the second problem, but the camera is still unstable on the other side. The center of gravity of a camera is different from that of a pistol. The center of gravity of the camera will tilt too outward on the side, resulting in uncomfortable waist.

Therefore, the daily trader's strap is not as convenient as the traditional strap. In addition, one advantage of the strap is that it is easy to store in the camera bag, while the strap for day traders is inconvenient.

SLR wristbands are also chicken ribs. I tried it many years ago, and it can't provide you with stable shooting performance. Because of the wristband, the camera can't be hung around the neck, so it can only be held in your hand.

There are some skills in using braces. In addition to hanging the camera, it can also provide some support to improve the stability of shooting.

Of course, the camera strap also has its inherent shortcomings, such as the inability to hang the camera on the side. In many cases, it is very necessary to hang the camera on the side to avoid the camera colliding with objects back and forth. For example, two scenes, one scene, when climbing a big slope, the camera on the strap will sag and be very unstable; In the second scene, such as shooting a still life, I hung my camera to adjust the still life on the stage, which was very inconvenient.

After entering the era of micro-singles, I gradually got used to using wristbands instead of straps. If you master the skills, the wrist guard can greatly improve the freedom and stability of shooting.

I use Fuji XE 1 XE2 camera without anti-shake system, and there is no problem for almost115 seconds. And it is not limited by angle.

Of course, this kind of wristband is a bit special. Use ordinary wristbands, which are not long enough to buckle. This wristband is not everything. Because the strap is removed, it can only be held in your hand, and it is impossible without a camera bag.

Why do some photographers never use camera straps?

The shoulder strap of SLR camera is a very useful camera accessory, and its biggest function is to ensure that the camera can be used freely within the controllable range; When your hands need to leave the camera, you can face them calmly and "liberate your hands"; Some special occasions also have special functions.

However, some photographers take the shoulder strap off the camera and hardly use it. These are special cases, not universal. They often appear when one person has two cameras, one person has multiple cameras and the cameras are placed on the work platform for operation.

First, you can try to use shoulder straps. In our daily shooting process, we often operate with one hand. At this time, the role of the shoulder strap is obvious; When we walk, we usually carry our shoulder straps and walk with one hand, which is also balanced and relaxed. When walking, Wan Yi's foot bumps a little. With the protection of the shoulder strap, you can save the day and be safe.

Second, there are other functions besides protection. For example, when taking pictures on the screen, the shoulder strap is stretched forward and straightened, which can play a certain auxiliary and stabilizing role; For example, when using a tripod, sometimes there will be some problems in its position and stability, and it can be "tied" and reinforced with shoulder straps, and so on.

Third, in general, try to wear and use shoulder straps. After all, we are all "ordinary people" and shoot every day. We don't need to simply imitate the behavior of big coffee bowls. The most practical and practical way is what we really need.

I want to use a wristband after a long time, and I want to use a shoulder strap after a long time. There are also wristbands and shoulder straps that can be used instead of playing.

When you take two cameras out, you must wear a shoulder strap. If you don't wear a shoulder strap in public, it looks very chic!
