Laizhou is known as the "hometown of roses", and Laizhou roses have been cultivated for more than 600 years. Since 1990, May 25th of each year has been designated as Laizhou Rose Festival, which has become a large-scale activity in Laizhou organized by the local government, participated by the whole people and enjoyed a high reputation in China, integrating city sightseeing, opening up and economic and trade cooperation.

On May 25th, 2009, the 19th Laizhou Rose Festival and the 5th China (Yantai) International Automobile Fair opened in Laizhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, and Yang, vice mayor of Yantai, attended the opening ceremony.

In order to improve the taste of the month season, the 19th Laizhou month season highlighted the characteristics of folk culture, and promoted the citizens' happiness and satisfaction. Focusing on six themes, namely, showing Chinese rose customs, perceiving Laizhou history, exploring longevity, showing Chinese martial arts, experiencing artistic fashion and savoring folk culture, 22 series of activities were held at the same time, such as the exhibition and evaluation of high-quality varieties of Chinese rose flowers, the collective wedding of young people based on Jinshan Hai Yin flowers, the Sino-British Sanda competition, the collection and display of healthy and happy speeches of "diamond-married old people" and the talent display of "four generations living under one roof", which made the Chinese rose flower festival a unique event.
