First, the choice of lens
In the case of limited space and a large number of people, a wide-angle fixed-focus lens of 28 mm or 33 mm is needed. Because the wide-angle fixed-focus lens has a large viewing angle, the photographer can bring the subject into the viewfinder in a limited space without going too far back. The deformation control of the fixed-focus lens is much stronger than that of the zoom lens, which is very important for some conditions that do not allow going too far back.
If the number of people taking a group photo is small, the advantages of 70- 135 mm medium focal length lens can be reflected, that is, compared with the group photo taken by wide-angle fixed-focus lens, the image taken by it will not change the overall shape, and it also has the characteristics of highlighting people and blurring the background.
Second, posture and composition.
In the process of shooting group images, the key to pose and composition is to master the following three elements, including:
1. Technical. The composition design must make the people in the back as close as possible to the people in front, so as to ensure that the characters in the front row and the back row appear on the plane, and it is easy to focus from front to back, so as to ensure that the characters in the picture have the same clarity.
2. Expression of aesthetic feeling. Creating group images is also composition design. 2. Portraits of four people. When shooting with four people, the eye height of the fourth person can't be the same as that of the other three people in the group, which will cause visual beauty and the overall look will be patchy. The overall composition can be organized into pyramid, inverted triangle, diamond and curve, thus making the whole picture more vivid.
3. Large groups. If a group has more than 9 people, it is no longer a small group. When shooting such a group, the complexity and difficulty of lighting, posing and other issues will increase relatively. When shooting a large group, there must be some gaps between people, neither too big nor too small. Attention should be paid to the arrangement of height and the arrangement of men and women. Usually men and women are arranged in one or more rows, which can better reflect the neatness of the picture.

2. Focus selection. A group photo of dozens or hundreds of people, mostly several rows, is several meters or even farther away from the camera. Taking a group photo requires everyone to take a clear picture, so where should the focus be adjusted? Some people focus on the middle row. This method is unreliable. If the magnification is high, some lines cannot be seen clearly. The best way is to use hyperfocal distance or area focusing. Hyperfocal distance can clearly photograph any object that is out of focus at a certain distance. The method is to use the depth of field scale on the lens to aim the predetermined aperture value on the right side of the lens at the infinity symbol, and the distance corresponding to the aperture value on the left side, that is, from this distance to infinity, can be clearly photographed. Generally speaking, the clear range before the focus is shorter than that after the focus. For example, taking a group photo, if there are five rows of people, we should focus on the people in the middle of the second row, so as to make more effective use of the depth of field in the foreground and the depth of field in the back to take a clear group photo.
3. Choice of light. Exposure is particularly important when taking group photos of dozens or hundreds of people. Soft natural light is more suitable for group photos, and direct sunlight and backlight should be avoided as much as possible. The time should be from 10 to 4 pm. Don't take pictures in the shade, lest you draw your face.
4. Composition method. The composition layout of the group photo requires a wide top and a narrow bottom, leaving a little space on the left and right to fill the picture as much as possible. In addition, the schedule is also an important issue. Generally, tall people are in the middle, short people are in the front, and the people in the back have one more head than those in the front row. In addition, take more negatives and choose the best.
5. Pay attention when taking pictures. Before shooting, see if there is any front row blocking the back row in the queue. If there is, adjust the position.
