1953 set up the precision instrument department, which consists of military optical design and manufacturing and radar design and manufacturing.

1February, 1960, military optical design and manufacturing, rocket instrument sensor, engineering optics, infrared night vision device, optical guidance and trace detection became independent optical instrument departments.

1975, the department of optical instruments was renamed as the department of engineering optics, and there are optical instruments, optical system design and testing, photoelectric technology, photoelectric imaging technology and other majors.

1983 and 1985 respectively established the teaching and research sections (laboratories) of photoelectric technology foundation, guided wave and integrated optics.

1986 set up a photoelectric information research institute and implemented a management system integrating departments and institutes.

1994 the department of engineering optics was renamed as the department of photoelectric engineering. In the same year, the Institute of Information Engineering was jointly established with the Department of Electronic Engineering, and a joint academic committee and a degree evaluation sub-committee were established.

From 65438-0998, the State Education Commission adjusted the undergraduate professional catalogue, merged and adjusted the majors of optical instruments and optical system design and testing into the majors of measurement technology and instruments, and merged and adjusted the undergraduate majors of photoelectric technology and photoelectric imaging technology into the majors of electronic science and technology.

1999 in order to adapt to the development of disciplines and social needs, the specialty of optometry technology was established in higher vocational colleges, and the specialty of photographic engineering and computer image production was established in 2002.

200 1 information engineering major (photoelectric information direction) was established, with 60 students enrolled.

In 2002, the specialty of measurement and control technology and instrument was rated as the key specialty of the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, and the specialty of electronic science and technology was rated as the famous brand specialty of Beijing Institute of Technology.

In August 2002, according to the adjustment plan of departments and disciplines of Beijing Institute of Technology, the School of Information Science and Technology was jointly established by the Department of Automatic Control, the Department of Optoelectronic Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering and the Department of Computer Science.

From June 5438 to February 2008, the Institute of Optoelectronic Science and Technology was established.
