In the studio, we use lights to shoot high-profile portraits. In addition to letting the subject wear white or light-colored clothes and use a light-colored background, it is mainly necessary to use a smooth way. In this way, the shadow caused by the illumination light can be reduced to a minimum.

Low-key portraits are used up.

The characteristics and shooting requirements of low-key portraits are just the opposite of high-profile portraits. Its tone composition is mainly dark tone, and try to avoid or use less bright tone. When shooting a black-and-white portrait, the combination of tones is mainly black, dark gray and medium gray, while when shooting a color portrait, it is mainly black, low brightness dark color and medium brightness color. A low-key portrait should make the subject look deep and dignified.

When shooting a low-key portrait in the studio, the subject should wear look clothes and use a dark background. Generally, single-lamp side backlight or side lighting will enlarge the shadow area of the subject's face, and the light ratio should be controlled at 1:4 ~ 1:6. Exposure should be based on the brightness of the subject's face, so that the bright part can be reproduced as a middle tone, and the dark part is a dark tone.

In low-key color images, you can also configure a small amount of bright colors, but the area should not be too large, so as not to destroy the low-key effect. These bright colors are often conspicuous and stand out against a large area of dark and heavy colors.

Midtone portraits are running out.

The shooting of middle-tone portraits is neither dominated by light tones like high-profile portraits nor dominated by dark tones like low-key portraits. Photos will contain dark, medium and light tones at the same time, so the composition of the middle tone is neither biased nor dark, giving people a visual feeling of neither bright nor dignified. When shooting, there are no regulations on the nature of the light source and the light distribution method. Generally, there is more lighting with front light and front side light.

Intermediate tone works have small contrast and rich layers, and the images are composed of white to light gray and dark gray to black tone layers, which is the most common tone picture in photography.

In terms of tone characteristics, the mid-tone photos did not give readers too much emotional influence, but faithfully recorded the rich relationship between light and shade of the subject and reproduced its true tone.

Use of soft-tone and hard-tone portraits

Soft-toned portraits are characterized by hazy tones, mostly with medium light and dark tones, with relatively few bright tones and few or no dark tones. Will bring a bright, light and pleasant visual experience to the audience. Soft-tone shooting uses scattered soft light as much as possible, and the light ratio is controlled to a minimum to avoid obvious dark tone in the picture. Generally, a large area of soft light is used for lighting, so as to avoid a large area of shadow on the subject and affect the overall soft light hazy effect. A soft light lens should be used when shooting, or the soft light effect should be processed later.

Hard-tuned portrait ran out

Hard-tone portraits mainly use the depth of light and shade to form images, with large light ratio and few intermediate tones. This kind of tone is often used to express the distinct personality of the subject. When distributing light, use strong light to control the light source area. The position of the lamp should be adjusted according to the photographer's needs.
