What movies have Vietnamese in them?
The following is an introduction about it:
Three seasons co-produced by the United States and Vietnam, 1998 released. This is the first American film that was shot entirely in Vietnam and told entirely in Vietnamese after the Vietnam War. This is the debut of Vietnamese-American director Tony Bui, written by Pei Dongguang and Lin Pei. The film made a great splash at the Japanese Dance Film Festival from 65438 to 0999, becoming the first film in history to win the jury award, the best film award and the best photography award, and was shortlisted for the Berlin Film Festival to enter the European film stage.
Similar to Khiesz Lovsky's red, white and blue trilogy, which focuses on humanity, nationality and society, director Pei Dongni depicts the living conditions of three completely different groups of people in Vietnam today, and depicts five social roles impacted by western civilization in a sad and happy way, showing the living conditions of modern Vietnamese, especially the people at the bottom of society, delicately and sensitively. With gentle eyes, it truly records the love, affection and friendship of the innocent and simple Vietnamese people.
The first story: since the old poet got leprosy at the age of 23, he has enclosed himself in a temple in the middle of the lotus pond. Ann, a country girl, is a new flower picker in the lotus pond. During the break, the women workers sang the same songs year after year, and the new songs brought by Ann broke the calm of the pond for many years. The ballads taught by her mother rekindled this terminally ill poet's enthusiasm for life. Ann appreciated the poet's poems very much. Inspired by Ann's singing, the poet began to write poems again. Ann recorded the poet's last swan song before his death and fulfilled his last wish in life.
The second story: Hai, a penniless rickshaw driver, fell in love with Lian, a prostitute who worships material life, and met her at the gate of the hotel connecting guests every night. He hopes he can change Lian. In order to satisfy his desire to spend the night with Lian, he cheated and won the prize of tricycle race. In the spacious and luxurious hotel room, all he asked was to watch his beloved put on the white dress he bought and go to sleep quietly. The sea finally awakened the true and beautiful love of Lotus sleeping in her heart with her sincerity.
The third story: James, an American veteran, set foot in Vietnam again just to find his daughter born to a Vietnamese woman. In a bar, he met Woody, an orphan who sold cigarettes and lighters everywhere with a wooden box around his neck. Woody lost his box in the bar and had to wander the street looking for James and his box. James is also looking for the last confession of his life. Just as James was about to leave Vietnam for a drink, he found his daughter laughing in the arms of a wretched man among a group of Vietnamese prostitutes at the same table, and suddenly the soldiers began to cry. On a rainy night, Woody met a little girl wearing the same raincoat. The girl gave him half of her dry food, and the two children snuggled up and fell asleep in the rain. Finally, Woody found his box in the street on a rainy night and continued his simple life.
The story happened in summer and at night, and it was a continuous subtropical rain. However, its name is three seasons. After watching it, I understand why: the three pairs of characters in the film represent the three seasons in life, namely childhood, adulthood and old age. Different seasons of life have their own beautiful scenery and different fragrant flowers. The director symbolizes the endless vitality of the whole country with the cycle of human life and death.
Judging from the life of a dying poet, that kind of classical, out-of-touch purity not only represents the lifestyle precipitated in Vietnam's past history, but also represents the season of middle-aged and elderly people in life. Although it has been tortured beyond recognition by the disease, it still has a lotus-like noble fragrance; Even though it has passed away, it has been floating on the lotus pond for many years. The sea and lotus flowers, as well as the sense of security in picking lotus flowers, all represent the youth in life, which is beautiful and full of hope. Even if there are scars, people believe that scars can be healed. Woody and that girl, who always appear in raincoats on rainy nights, are in their infancy, but unfortunately they are not cared for by their parents. When they perceive the complicated world in front of them with fearful eyes, they are also young and ignorant, leaving the last bit of human selflessness in the derailed society. In the first season of life, because of too much rain, the color is dim, and the only bright color is this group of children full of vitality and vitality. The encounter between JANES and Woody implies the confrontation between teenagers and the old, between freshmen and the past, between Vietnam, which has risen in modern times, and the United States, which regards itself as a civilization.
"Girls and poets, prostitutes and coachmen, American soldiers and orphans, three abandoned emotional relationships, do not want to forget the past new generation", which is the recommendation of the film. The so-called "new generation" refers to Vietnam, which is in full swing. I think it's also a compliment to the director. Pei Dongni, the director of the film, 1973 was born in Vietnam. When he was 2 years old, his family moved to America and grew up there. The co-writer is his four-year-old brother. The picture in Tony's first focus plane makes people feel like a poem, paving a poetic picture of their hometown. There is no bizarre story, and there is no tense rhythm. To achieve satisfactory results, it is particularly important for the director to control the organization and structure of the story. There are no abrupt and obvious narrative clues in the film. The director adopts the technique of stream of consciousness and skillfully uses lotus flowers, so that three groups of seemingly unrelated characters have a chance to pass by, laying the foundation for the integrity and authenticity of the film. In Lian's home, there are lotus flowers bought by Hai from Anna. James also bought Ann's lotus flowers for his daughter, who is also a prostitute, in the market. All three women showed lotus-like beauty.
A good story also needs excellent shooting techniques to carry it. In the film, groups of beautiful, simple or contrasting shots poured in. Tony used many ingenious methods to express the contradiction between Vietnam's emerging society and the impact of foreign material civilization. Like the first scene that attracted me, the yellow dusty road under the huge bright COCO ~ cola billboard is in sharp contrast with the static and gloomy tricycle fleet; The static background of billboards and motorcades sets off the vague car shadows on the road, which makes the static and dynamic contrast clear and vague, and also shows people's inner suspense-in today's rapidly changing society, what else is eternal except passing clouds? What is the same? The scraping scene makes the ancient medical methods in the East as ambiguous and touching as possible. Humble people can also have romantic love. Lian is ill, and the sea is blowing for her. Hot weather, dim lights and naked skinny bodies of women make you completely unaware of any cultural conflict in scraping. You are just using an ancient therapy in East Asia, leaving a trace of eternal hope on your white back. Maybe love will grow at that moment. Especially outstanding is the superb application of dynamic and static contrast effect. Quiet lotus pond, rippling pool water, graceful Bai Lianhua, dewdrops rolling on the green lotus leaf, "What is the lotus leaf?". . . Fish play among the lotus leaves, lotus boats come unexpectedly, and lotus flowers sway with them. Generally, the lens moves with the movements of the characters. Where the lens is still, the protagonist of the picture is the lotus pond, and the characters move into the picture, breaking the silence of the picture. Such abnormal visual contrast makes the effect of the picture very eye-catching, and it deserves the best photography award in the film festival.
The story is a combination of sound and picture, which makes people more moved. Although I can't understand the lyrics of "Lotus Pond Girl", the quiet and simple tune is almost natural. Most of the stories took place in Saigon Street. Although the dust is flying, there is no noisy sound in the film. The director blocked all the street sounds and replaced them with faint music, showing a pure world that was washed away. The film shows not only the sound and shadow, but also the smell-the fragrance of lotus. . . . From the beginning of the film, the director put the lotus flower in the audience's sight intentionally or unintentionally, and repeated several pictures of different people smelling the flowers. Every time they smell the flowers, the audience gets a hint: that's Bai Lianhua. Therefore, from the lotus leaf in the lotus pond at the beginning of the film to the blossoming white lotus in the water market at the end of the film, the image of lotus in the audience's mind has been strengthened again and again, and a series of information about lotus has been acquiesced, so this is a fragrant film. After watching the whole movie, there will be a feeling of mud and sand, as if the world has become Bai Lianhua.
"Three Seasons" is different from all American movies related to Vietnam, avoiding the accusations of war and western views. Under the background of seasonal changes in life, it presents us with a picture of ordinary Vietnamese life. Director Tony is a skeptic full of contradictions, but also a director with great nationalism and great love. Throughout the film, the eternal themes of human nature such as equality, freedom and love are exactly what he wants to express. While the film reveals helplessness to the real world, a strong national spirit also exists and cannot be stopped. Woody's Wooden Box shows that the Vietnamese nation, which is still in a developing country, is developing in full swing, and the strong and simple Vietnamese people will rebuild their homes and find everything that belongs to them. This is the director's beautiful interpretation of the theme of human freedom. The theme of "love" can also be seen everywhere in the whole film. The love of the sea for lotus flowers, the love of girls for patients, the love of veterans for their daughters, the mutual care between orphans and the friendship between rickshaw pullers. . . It is extremely smooth in any corner of the film. The three stories are intertwined, independent and intertwined, forming a trio about beauty, love and hope.
In our impression, Vietnam is a poor neighbor near and far away. In today's world, Vietnam has experienced heavy losses in Vietnam War and the pain of civil war, and is gradually embarking on the road of equal and free economic development. According to the survey report of the World Economic Organization, the average development speed of Vietnam's economy has been in the forefront of the world in recent years. Vietnam has become one of the most dynamic and potential regions in Asia, and occupies an important position in the regional system of developing countries. It is in this period of social transformation and rapid development that the contradictions and conflicts between society and people, business and moral standards, traditional values and new values are increasingly intensified.
Quiet lotus pond, fragrant lotus, reclusive poets singing traditional poems, symbolizing a Vietnam that has not been invaded by western culture and material civilization; In the hot and dusty Saigon, the influence of the West is everywhere. This changing country also has a turbulent side in peace. The economic prosperity brought by modernization has not benefited everyone. The girls, poets, prostitutes and drivers in the film have all become vulnerable groups in the process of modernization. They find that they may be eliminated by society and struggle for their lives every day. Some details, such as the plastic flowers competing with Ann, the Disney cartoons watched by Woody and the little girl sitting on the floor of the TV wall in the shopping mall, and the dazzling billboards of Coca-Cola, all reflect the dribs and drabs of western economic and cultural infiltration. But pessimism is not the main theme of this film. The camera focuses on the lives of ordinary people. These people are eager to have a better life, face their own situation and cherish everything they have. Although they don't have much, they are still optimistic and work hard. Everyone contains tenacious vitality and expectation for a better life, which is also the director's praise and hope for Vietnam, a reborn country.
At the end of the movie, everyone has a slightly melancholy but absolutely happy ending. On his deathbed, the poet remembered the song "How naive and beautiful I was then" sung by a woman in the water market when he was young. Ann pursued the dream that the poet told her, rowed a boat full of lotus flowers to his haunted hometown water market, and sprinkled lotus flowers on the river with the harmony of women. Bai Lianhua flows on the water like a river. Those wandering lotus flowers are a ferry and a long journey in life, and also indicate the reunion in the afterlife. He may have been watching from the other side of his life. The sea took the lotus washed with lead flower to a path full of red summer flowers and gave her a book. As a student, the lotus wearing a gown danced in the petals dancing with the wind, and the red eyes of the trees brought her back to her innocent student days. The white school uniform, set off by bright red flowers, indicates the beginning of a new life. James can finally give the lotus to his daughter. Woody also took back the box he lived on from American villains. The most exciting scene at the end of the film is that on a rainy night, Woody and street children play football like other children all over the world. There is no referee and no audience in the street ball game in the rainstorm. They just show their youth and passion in the rain. Children represent the future of Vietnam. Although he is still poor and ignorant, their persistent will gives people hope and represents the hope of this country.
"Three Seasons" and Chen Yingxiong's "Tricycle Driver" are both films about the current situation of Vietnamese society. Both of them take tricycle drivers as typical representatives of the bottom of society, and both have stories about rickshaw drivers and prostitutes, which reflect the backwardness and poverty of developing countries, pay attention to the same theme and reflect similar times, but use completely different methods. In Tricycle Driver, the skinny and naked driver is struggling on the edge of life and death, trapped in the suffocating abyss at the bottom of society, and only in extreme ignorance and poverty will he show despair, which is even more cruel than disappointment. But in "Three Seasons", of course, there is the disparity between the rich and the poor in Vietnam's transformation and many poor people, but at least it is not so ugly and ignorant. They have hope and believe that they can strive for happiness through their own efforts (such as tricycle racing). They are at the bottom of society, but they also have their own dignity, love and affection. From the comparison of the two films, we can see that the same thing, different expressions and different story-telling methods can show the audience completely different effects. If you want to be ugly, it's disgusting. Uncover those old scars and dark corners. To express beauty, you can also find beauty that you never thought of in those people who were once extremely inconspicuous.
The pond is full of red leaves, the girl's white skirt and the breeze. . . This is the world left by three seasons.
