How to take a pleasing flower photo?

In this issue of flower photography course, I want to share with you some beautiful flower images taken with simple and common objects. I will introduce how to use flashlights and reflectors to increase lighting skills and give full play to imagination to produce specific effects, thus creating beautiful flowers photos.

First, the construction of shooting scenes

To shoot flowers, you need to install the camera on a tripod by the window. When choosing shooting settings, please try to control the shutter speed below 1 sec/15s. It is more convenient to take a selfie with a remote shutter button or a camera.

In this scene, I chose a position perpendicular to the window, which can provide good light.

Secondly, add a reflector.

In this exposure, the image is slightly brighter, but please note that the shadow is still strong. In order to soften the light, white cardboard was added under the side of the flower as a simple reflector. Almost anything white can be used as a reflector. The purpose of using white cardboard as a reflector here is to reduce shadows and soften light.

Third, add a flashlight, the effect is better.

Now, use the flashlight to add some backlight, and make sure to put the flashlight in a proper position to prevent any light from directly shining on the lens. The light should be completely behind the flowers and can't shine into the camera lens.

This backlight is very strong, and the center of the flower is a little dark.

We can use a second light source to supplement the light of flowers. It is recommended to use a shutter speed lower than115 and move the flash during exposure. Otherwise, the light of the flashlight will be too strong, causing dazzling shadows.

If the light is too bright, you can use a reflector in front of the flashlight to soften the light.

Let's see what our flowers would look like if the backlight was not so strong and white cardboard was used as a reflector.

Fourth, create creativity through light and composition.

At this stage, you can add creativity to the picture and try to shoot under the light.

In terms of composition, you can decide where the eye-catching focus of the photo is, pay attention to the change of light and shade in the center of the flower, and add some light sources or reflectors if necessary.
