SLR photography skills in cloudy days

Some photographers don't like taking pictures when it's dark. They think that this kind of weather has insufficient light and color cast, so it is impossible to make a good film. In fact, cloudy days are characterized by cloudy days. Knowing their characteristics and using them flexibly can also make a good film. The following are my skills of SLR photography on cloudy days. Welcome to read!

I haven't seen the sun for a long time recently, and my mood has become low. I complain that I can't take good photos without sunshine, and my camera has been put aside. Actually, cloudy days are no excuse. Let's take a look at how to shoot on a cloudy day!

(1) Make good use of cloudy weather. cloud

Although there is no clear blue sky and white clouds, gray clouds do not mean that it is difficult to shoot, but it is more conducive to creating a mysterious atmosphere. Look at the tall buildings in the picture, it will be more mysterious if they are covered by gray clouds! This kind of cloud (sometimes foggy) is more prominent in cities, because tall buildings in the distance will be covered with a layer of gray when blocked by fog, which is more in contrast with nearby buildings.

(B) and the use of atmospheric tones

In order to match the gloomy atmosphere, the tones of blue and gray can be adjusted. You can adjust the white balance in front of the camera, which will make the photo blue, about 6500k, and then subtract 2/3 to 1EV to make the photo look darker. Note that it is not the white balance on a cloudy day, because the white balance on a cloudy day will make the photo yellow to balance the blue on a cloudy day. If the camera doesn't have K key, you can choose white balance of tungsten lamp. If you shoot RAW files, these can be adjusted in post-production. You can also reduce the saturation and even adjust it to black and white, which looks good.

(C) Dark Angle Enhancement Effect

Finally, we can add dark corners to the photos to enhance the visual effect and make the photos look more atmospheric and mysterious!
