Directed by Wong Kar-wai and starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Leslie Cheung, Spring is a classic that many fans can't surpass.

Xia Yongkang, a famous photographer who has cooperated with Wong Kar-wai for many times, recently held his own photography exhibition "Spring Meets the Wind", showing his selected works in his creative career for nearly 20 years. The cooperation with director Wong Kar-wai was definitely an accident for Xia Yongkang.

Xia Yongkang, born in 1964, worked in the United States for some time after graduating from Emily University of Art and Design. After that, I went back and forth to Hong Kong and opened my own studio, which was responsible for shooting fashion and advertising.

In addition, he was also responsible for the shooting and design of several films for director Wong Kar-wai, including Early Spring, In the Mood for Love and 2046. At that time, Xia Yongkang, the crew and Argentines filmed the classic of Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Leslie Cheung embracing each other on the rooftop because of "accident".

It turned out that Wong Kar-wai invited Xia Yongkang to be a stills and graphic designer of Spring Break on 1996, so he went to Argentina with the crew. However, Xia Yongkang once said that cooperation with Wong Kar-wai was "a mistake in the arrangement of heaven and earth".

That year, Xia Yongkang, who was still filming the album cover, came to Xia Yongkang's studio. Wong Kar-wai saw his photo and said, "Does your work look different from others?" At that time, Xia Yongkang replied: "Yes, no one likes it." But Wong Kar-wai smiled and said, "I like it."

Therefore, Xia Yongkang was invited by Wong Kar-wai to shoot spring break stills in Argentina, which was his first contact with movies. At that time, Xia Yongkang took the stills of a movie for the first time without using a box specially designed for silent cameras, so when he pressed the shutter, the movie broadcast came. But until the film was finished, the silencer box had not arrived.

Because there is no silencer, it is said that he can only shoot at the moment when Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Leslie Cheung finished shooting, and at that time, these wrong stills turned out to be classics.

Du Kefeng and Zhang Shuping are the production designers of "Spring at First Release". As a new stills writer who joined the creative team, Xia Yongkang said that she was afraid of work and often got into trouble. Sometimes it takes up the photographer's position because of taking pictures.

There was a scene where my brothers Leslie Cheung and Tony Leung Chiu Wai danced the tango. At that time, Xia Yongkang was completely intoxicated by the atmosphere and forgot to focus when taking pictures. After the photos were exposed, they were all empty.

Sometimes metering will make mistakes, and I feel that I took a lot of garbage at that time. Xia Yongkang admitted that he didn't know why Wong Kar-wai chose these photos as stills.

Xia Yongkang has photographed many singers and actors. In addition to my brother Leslie Cheung, there are Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Jacky Cheung, Karen Mok, Shu Qi and so on.

Xia Yongkang said, maybe he started with stills. Basically, every time he shoots an actor, everyone will play freely. As a third party, the effect will be unexpected.

In 200 1 year, my brother's photo album "Qing" sold amazingly. This is Leslie Cheung's last personal photo album. All the photos were taken in mainland China.
