Ningjin County is located in the south-central part of Hebei Province, northeast of Xingtai City, bordering Xinhe County, Jizhou District of Hengshui City and xinji city of Shijiazhuang City in the east, Baixiang County in the west, Longyao County and Julu County in the south, and Zhao County and Jinzhou City in Shijiazhuang City in the north. It governs 13 towns, 3 townships, 1 sub-district offices, 1 provincial development zones, and 364 administrative villages, with an area of 1 10.9 square kilometers.

Ningjin has a long history. The Yao Dian in Shangshu is called Yong Yang. In 2790, it was renamed Ningjin, meaning "peace and happiness".
