I recently read a foreign novel called The Seven Corners Building. The Seven Corners Building is a mansion, which happens to be a haunted house, but it has always been remembered.

The Seven Corners Building is the work of nathaniel hawthorne, an American writer in the 19th century. Yulu looked at the translation, which was translated by Jia and Jia.

The story took place in New England during the colonial development of North America. At that time, Colonel Ping Qiong, a local dignitary, forcibly occupied a piece of land of Matthew Moore's family, which was simple and poor, and executed Moore on charges of witchcraft. Colonel Ping Qiong built a beautiful and luxurious seven-corner building on his hard-earned land for future generations to enjoy. However, just after the banquet for the guests, Colonel Ping Qiong died strangely in his study. Everyone at the scene suspected that it was Moore's ghost, because even professional autopsy personnel could not explain the death of Colonel Pinqiong.

Even after such a strange thing happened, none of Pingqiong's family wanted to leave the mansion. However, after the death of Colonel Pinqiong, a series of unfortunate events happened in succession in the Pinqiong family, and this prominent family gradually declined.

The turret is located in Moore Street, which was renamed Pingqiong Street after the Pingqiong family occupied it. The turret is characterized by seven-pointed pavilions, white oak roof trusses, shingles and cracked plaster, which are extremely declining.

Hundreds of years later, there is only one old lady left in Pingqiong's family-Hepzba Pingqiong, her brother-Clifford, her little niece-Phoebe, a rich judge (Clifford's cousin)-Pingqiong, and a young tenant living in the Seven Corners Building. He's Holgru.

The preface of the novel introduces the background and main characters, and then begins to describe these people around the Seven Corners Building. They came together because of the seven-corner building, and finally put down their obsession with the seven-corner building.

In order to solve the problem of survival, Herzba opened a grocery store, but she used to be a pampered aristocratic lady, unable to operate, grumpy and unable to deal with guests. Even though life was so miserable, Herzba didn't give up her idea of a noble lady. She is over sixty years old, and this idea is ingrained and cannot be changed.

Uncle Weiner, who sweeps the snow in the street, is also an elder who watched Herzba grow up. He gave her some business advice-"Smile gently, warmly and happily when facing customers. If you haven't had time to add it, you can add it in your spare time. " Uncle Weiner hopes that she can run the grocery store well, at least to solve the problem of survival.

Hepzba is learning how to manage the grocery store, but she is in a hurry every day, trying to break the jar. Until her little niece in the country came to the Seven Corners Building. My niece Phoebe is a young girl. Even though her father died young and her mother remarried, she remained optimistic and cheerful. She is patient and passionate, and she is also a smart and diligent little girl. When she came to the Seven Corners Building, she kept it in order, and even the grocery store business was slowly on the right track.

Phoebe is so capable.

Uncle Weiner said she was an angel of God.

The arrival of Phoebe made Hepziba's life no longer a mess, and her life began to become interesting. She appreciates this little niece very much.

Clifford, the owner of the house, came back and was released from prison.

He is a taciturn little old man with a poor mental state and intelligence like a child. Often a person in a daze, do not like to be disturbed.

He can accept Phoebe's retention, and Phoebe and Herzba are very happy.

From then on, Clifford's daily life is in the charge of Hepzba and Phoebe. Clifford is irritable and extremely anxious. He often walks around the house alone, but Phoebe is very patient. She would tell him stories, sing songs and chat with him to calm him down. Gradually, Clifford gets used to this life. Life in the Seven Corners Building is very quiet.

While taking care of Clifford, who is in a changeable mood, little Phoebe will also feel at a loss. At this time, photographer Holgru frequently appeared in Phoebe's life to clean up for her. They communicate in the small garden of the seven-corner building. Holgru agreed to let Phoebe use the small garden. Phoebe is very happy. She likes raising chickens and taking care of flowers and vegetables.

One day, there was a political parade in the street. People waved hundreds of flags and banners, and loud gongs and drums, loud flutes and horns echoed between buildings on both sides of the street. The long procession passed through the town, and the noisy footsteps and noises passed by the usually quiet seven-corner building. Clifford falls into a certain state, shivering and pale, as if remembering some painful memories. She threw a pleading look at Herzba and Phoebe, but they didn't find anything unusual. Clifford finally became uneasy because of the noise. He walked trembling to the balcony without railings, as if he were going to fall. At the critical moment, Herzba and Phoebe dragged him back in a panic. They began to cry in panic.

After this incident, both women take care of the sensitive old man, and Clifford becomes more silent, like a flickering candle.

The story of Alice Pingqiong was inserted into the novel. Alice is the daughter of Pingqiong's ancestors. She is a beautiful, noble and proud noble lady, but her life is sad. In order to occupy more land, her father sacrificed his beautiful young daughter and took back the documents proving land ownership from Matthew, a descendant of Moore.

Matthew hypnotized Alice to humiliate the proud princess and vent his hatred for the Pingqiong family.

Alice lost herself under Matthew's hypnosis. No matter where she is or what she is doing, as long as Matthew gives the order, she will drop what she is doing and go to work for Matthew. Yes, she became Matthew's slave. The chains that bound her made her feel more humiliated than any physical shackles, humiliating a thousand times.

Holgru is a descendant of Moore.

When he tells a story to Phoebe, he tries to control Phoebe by hypnosis, just like his ancestor Matthew did to Alice. Nothing tempts a person who likes to think and has strong actions more than the opportunity to control his soul. Nothing can touch a young man more than controlling the fate of a young girl.

But unfortunately, Phoebe woke up.

Phoebe didn't feel the danger and walked past her. Still smile and say goodbye to Holgru, because Phoebe is going back to her hometown.

After Phoebe left, Judge Ping Qiong came to the Seven Corners Building.

Judge Pingqiong thinks Clifford knows where his uncle's legacy is and wants to get clues from him. It turned out that Clifford didn't kill their rich uncle at first, but killed Judge Pingqiong, who was just a down-and-out punk. He is eager to live a master's life. How can he be willing to go to jail? So he blamed all this on his most annoying cousin Clifford. The purpose of Judge Pinqiong's visit may have been discovered by Clifford. He pretended to be crazy and left with Herzba, leaving a seven-corner building bearing their lifelong memories. They went wandering together, and Clifford felt reborn, happy all the way, like a bird out of a cage.

Judge Ping Qiong has been sitting in the living room, with a pocket watch in his hand, thinking about when they will come back and what to do when they get the inheritance. He is like an old man who looks after the house for a friend from afar, waiting silently.

Not long after, Judge Ping Qiong died suddenly. He died quietly in the Seven Corners Building, as bizarre as his ancestor Colonel Pingqiong, who was very eager for wealth and the cause of death was unknown.

Phoebe came back in the meantime and couldn't find the two lovely old people. She panicked. At this time, Holgru appeared again. He briefly told Phoebe what happened during this time, and finally made a deep confession to her. Little Phoebe, as innocent as a deer, was at a loss in surprise. She couldn't believe it.

Suddenly, two lovely old people came in from outside the door. A relaxed manner is really like going out to travel for fun, rather than avoiding Judge Ping Qiong.

Alice in the town is in full bloom, with a very strong scarlet color, like the sun, like blood, like rivers, like their future. Alice flowers were planted in memory of Alice. Scarlet flowers are as beautiful and noble as Alice. Looking at this Alice flower, I seem to see the blooming flowers in the Garden of Eden.

Judge Ping Qiong tried her best to earn a considerable legacy for her son, but his son died less than a week after his death. He died of cholera before boarding the boat and returning to his hometown.

Clifford, Herzba and Phoebe, a village girl in the Seven Corners Building, were fortunate enough to inherit Judge Pingqiong's legacy. They decided to leave this sad and decadent seven-corner building and live in Judge Ping Qiong's villa in the country. Holgru tells Phoebe everything, including his true identity, and expresses his love to Phoebe again. Uncle Weiner also decided to go back to the countryside to enjoy his old age. A group of them live a quiet life, no more wizards, no more competition for wealth. Nothing, just love.

This novel is not very long, but it shows the life of that era in a very plain way. Wealth took away life, and finally it gave them a new life. At that time, we didn't know how many families were oppressed and destroyed because they had no power and influence. But this novel is the epitome of colonial people's life at the end of the 19th century. It can also be said that there are two eras, one is the entanglement between Moore and the Joan family hundreds of years ago, and the other is the fate of future generations. Holgru didn't choose revenge. They became a family and continued to write their stories together, but this time they began to write happiness.

People who live a carefree life can't seem to understand the temptation of wealth. Just like people who are not short of money tell the poor that money is not important. As for wealth, Yulu thinks it is enough to take it properly. Have more than one can chew, and pretend to have a big appetite. People with small hearts can still keep their share of life.

Yulu saw life from her old brother and sister and lovely Phoebe. Live every day carefully, life will be better, and a good attitude is the ignition point of a better life.
