Field macro photography skills

Lead: Wild flowers, plants, insects and small animals are very suitable for macro photography. Let's have a look!

Equipment list: 450mm or 100mm fixed-focus macro lens, tripod, monopod, right-angle viewfinder, external flash or ring flash, reflector and camera bag.

Control lamp

For macro photography, an external flash can be said to be an indispensable and important device, especially when the light is difficult to illuminate in the dense trees at the bottom. Flash allows you to get a clearer picture at a higher shutter speed. Using an external flash can have a good effect, but it would be better if there are two effects? Put one on both sides of the subject, or light it from the front and back of the subject respectively.

What is the focal length?

The 50 mm fixed focus macro lens is an ideal choice for taking still life photos. If you want to shoot insects, 100mm or 180mm telephoto lens will perform better. They can let you shoot at a certain distance from the subject so as not to scare them.

Selection of macro lens

To take excellent close-up photos, you need an excellent macro lens. Macro lens can enlarge the subject and create amazing close-up pictures. Macro lenses usually provide a large aperture (about f/2.8), which means that you can separate the subject from the background with a shallow depth of field.

Reflections on the depth of field

The closer you are to the subject, the shallower the depth of field. Even with a smaller aperture, the range that can be clearly imaged on the screen may be only a few millimeters deep. For example, when taking close-up photos of insects, focusing on the insect's head, its trunk and wings may be blurred.

Annular flash tube

Using ring flash to take close-up photos of flowers or plants can obtain richer, fuller and shadowless presentation effects and create stronger visual impact. The main control unit of the annular flash lamp is directly inserted into the hot shoe of the camera, and the annular lamp cap is screwed in front of the lens. In addition, when taking a large number of macro photos, it may be necessary to use a lower shooting angle. At this time, using a right-angle viewfinder can make everything much easier and effectively avoid neck torture.
