The main building is an antique pavilion-style modern building with a strong national style. Building area 1705 1 m2, including the first to third floors *** 13 exhibition hall. Rodin Sculpture Exhibition before reconstruction, as a national art museum, has more than 10,000 pieces. Apart from some ancient paintings, it mainly collects and exhibits modern art works, including masterpieces of famous artists of old, middle and young people, award-winning works of major art exhibitions at home and abroad, and some foreign art works. The collection includes Chinese paintings, oil paintings, prints, New Year pictures, comic books, posters, cartoons, sketches, illustrations, watercolor gouache and pastel paintings, literary illustrations, lacquer paintings, children's paintings and sculptures, ceramics and so on. At the same time, it also collected a number of China stone rubbings, calligraphy works and photographic works. However, due to the architectural concept and economic conditions during the construction period, the construction standard of China Art Museum is not high and the exhibition conditions are poor. After 1970s, its main structure exposed many problems, which made many excellent works of art unable to be exhibited here. In May 2002, with the deployment of the State Council and the full support of relevant central ministries and commissions and Beijing Municipality, the renovation project of China Art Museum designed by Tsinghua University Architectural Design and Research Institute officially started construction.
